Delaware County, PA Strategic Response Unit

The Sheriff’s Reserve Unit was incorporated in March 2008 in Pennsylvania as an IRS certified 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. It was formed in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina to provide the residents of Delaware County with a trained and ready pool of volunteers to assist the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office as follows:

• Provides on a voluntary basis

personnel to assist the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in carrying out its responsibilities during national emergencies to protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Delaware County.

• Provide educational public safety services and programs covering issues of concern for residents of Delaware County.

• Develop and assist with projects and activities in cooperation and coordination with governmental and civic bodies for the purpose of promoting the health, safety and welfare of the citizenry, including traffic control, crowd control and security, assisting in missing person/children searches. Represents the Sheriff at various civic functions; carries out whatever other duties the Sheriff calls upon the Reserve Unit to perform. The Sheriff’s Reserve Unit will total approximately 120 Reserve Deputies, both uniformed and non-uniformed. Sheriff’s Reserve Unit Deputies will be certified in CPR, First Aid, AED, Expandable Baton, Pepper Spray, Use of Force Policy, Handcuffing, and National Incident Management System (NIMS) and traffic and crowd control.
