Be The Joy Foundation From 1 small act of kindness in December 2020 to an official nonprofit on a mission to spread joy all over Delco!

Be The Joy Foundation is a 501C3 nonprofit located in Delaware County. Beginnings: In December 2020 following the announcement of another ban on indoor dining - an initiative to raise $1200 began. As a former restaurant manager/bartender of 10 years, Brittany Scharr (founder), knew the negative impact this restriction would have on restaurant staff just before Christmas. In hopes of giving back an

d lifting spirits the original plan was to surprise gift 12 industry members in the twelve days leading up to Christmas with $100 cash. This seemingly small idea resulted in an astounding act of community kindness as the small hometown of Media, PA embraced the mission as heartwarming videos of the surprises were shared on social media. Featured on local and national news outlets the word spread resulting in over $30,000 raised and over 300 people gifted. Having created an incredible outlet for kindness we brought it back for year 2 in December 2021 and raised over $20,000 in less than 3 months and gifted another 200+ small business workers. As of early 2022 official non-profit status was granted and Be The Joy Foundation was officially born! Mission: The purpose of this organization is to serve the public good and bring joy to community members by raising funds to perform both acts of kindness and service. The goal of this non-profit is to offer financial relief in the form of surprise giftings while simultaneously uplifting individual morale. We measure success on smiles per hour - to donate:

Joy is my middle name. I was named after my Grandpop’s close friend that he fought with in WW2 who didn’t make it home. My first big fundraiser was in high school for soldiers overseas and my Grandpop cut out the newspaper clipping from the Philadelphia Inquirer and mailed it with a note to my Aunt “Saturday” (she always visited on Saturdays). I got his handwriting from the note tattooed on my forearm after Be The Joy’s first big in person event in 2023. We received the acceptance letter of non profit status on Veteran’s Day 2022. My Grandpop would have loved the name of the non profit name❤️ Grandmom Scharr + Grandpop Scharr and his buddy, Joy — have had the best seats in the house to the Joy journey🫶 Every gifting season as I reflect on beautiful moments and how much this community kindness has grown and evolved - I think about my Grandpop and how proud he would be. Imagine all the newspaper clippings he would have now🥹❤️

Merry Christmas!

For those that saw the post yesterday about the 13 seniors that were displaced from the Bucks County Nursing Home explosion/fire and relocated here to a nursing home in Wallingford…in about 1 hour I will be bringing all of the extra cozy lap blankets and fuzzy grip socks from our senior nursing home gift deliveries to Wallingford Rehab off of Providence road. Enough blankets & fuzzy socks for ALL OF THE 180 senior residents including extra for the 13 displaced seniors. I am also bringing enough handwritten holiday cards for every resident as well.

🎄TOMORROW A WISHLIST WILL BE POSTED OF ADDITIONAL NEEDS: toiletries, puzzles, clothing etc!🎄

A community effort well done!❤️🎄
