🔥 Riding & Camping – Fire Restrictions 🔥
There has been some confusion regarding John’s Peak OHV being private property and whether MRA follows Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) fire restrictions.
We want to clarify that while John’s Peak OHV is private property owned and managed by the Motorcycle Riders Association (MRA), our fire protection falls under ODF and we are REQUIRED to follow all ODF fire regulations and restrictions.
MRA absolutely follows and enforces ODF fire safety rules to help protect the mountain, surrounding forestland, neighboring properties, and our riding community.
🏍️ RIDING DURING FIRE SEASON
During fire season, all riders are expected to comply with current ODF fire restrictions, including:
✔️ Approved spark arrestors
✔️ Required firefighting equipment
✔️ Staying on vegetation-free trails and approved riding areas
Please use common sense and make responsible decisions regarding fire danger conditions. Riders should always check current ODF Fire Danger Levels before visiting the property.
🔥 REQUIRED FIRE EQUIPMENT
Motor vehicles, motorcycles, and ATVs are only permitted on improved roads and trails free of flammable vegetation.
Required equipment while traveling:
• One shovel and one gallon of water
OR
• One shovel and one 2½-pound or larger fire extinguisher
Additional OHV Requirements:
• All motorcycles and ATVs must carry a 2½-pound or larger fire extinguisher during fire season
• Class I & III ATVs operating on designated trails must carry a 2½-pound fire extinguisher
• Class II ATVs must carry BOTH a shovel AND either water or a fire extinguisher
• Class IV ATVs must carry a fire extinguisher at all times
🏕️ CAMPING AT LILY PRAIRIE
Camping at Lily Prairie is for OHV users only. All OHVs must have:
✔️ Current OHV tags
✔️ Approved spark arrestors
Camping is first come, first serve. Camping is primitive with vault toilets available, but there is NO water on site.
We encourage campers to become MRA members so you stay informed about events, notices, closures, and projects happening on the mountain.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s OHV Patrol has been actively patrolling and checking compliance.
🔥 CAMPFIRES
Campfires are ONLY allowed in the metal fire pits when the ODF fire level is GREEN.
❌ Once fire level reaches MODERATE or above, NO campfires are allowed anywhere on MRA property.
Please remember:
• There is NO water available on site
• Completely extinguish your campfire before leaving
🚫 DO NOT burn pallets anywhere on the Peak!
