The Masonic Apron of Paul Revere
As America celebrates 250 years, here's a name you know, and a story you probably don't…

Did you know that Paul Revere - patriot, silversmith, and the man who rode through the night to warn that the British were coming - was also a proud and deeply dedicated Freemason?

But here's where it gets remarkable.
Revere eventually rose to become Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, one of the most prestigious positions in American Freemasonry. His Masonic apron that was hand-decorated and steeped in the symbols of the Craft still exists today, carefully preserved as one of the most treasured artifacts in Masonic history.
The same hands that crafted silver, engraved patriots' portraits, and sounded the alarm for American liberty also tied on a Masonic apron and served his brothers with equal devotion.
Patriot. Craftsman. Brother.
Two and a half centuries later, the apron endures — just as the Craft endures.

In case you missed it, watch the full presentation of this year's Joseph "Kip" Duffy IV Memorial Trade Scholarship to Jeffrey Sprenkel of BCIT.

Moments like this are why we do what we do. Congratulations again Jeffrey. Brother Kip would be proud.

Medford Lodge #178 is proud to announce the recipient of this year's Joseph "Kip" Duffy IV Memorial Trade Scholarship: Jeffrey Sprenkel of Burlington County Institute of Technology in Medford.

Jeffrey is a senior in high school enrolled in the Electrical Construction program at BCIT, where he has gained hands-on experience with electrical systems, safety practices, and technical problem solving. After graduation, he plans to pursue a degree in engineering, with a long term goal of designing and improving electrical systems and infrastructure that positively impact communities.

That vision is exactly why this scholarship exists.

Brother Kip Duffy was one of our own. An electrician who served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a police officer who served his community in Las Vegas, and a beloved brother who left a lasting mark on everyone in this lodge. We lost him in 2024, but his spirit of service lives on through this scholarship.

The Joseph "Kip" Duffy IV Memorial Trade Scholarship was created in his memory to reward trade students who share his values. A love of community, a commitment to learning, and a drive to master their craft. Jeffrey embodies every one of those qualities.

Congratulations Jeffrey. Brother Duffy would be proud.

The Cornerstone of the U.S. Capitol

As America celebrates 250 years, here's a piece of history about the U.S. Capitol that most people never learned in school…

Did you know that on September 18, 1793, George Washington laid the cornerstone of the United States Capitol building? But what the history books often leave out is how he did it.

He arrived in full Masonic regalia.
Surrounded by lodge officers, brothers, and dignitaries, Washington conducted a formal Masonic ceremony complete with the ancient ritual of corn, wine, and oil consecrating the stone. The cornerstone of the nation's most iconic building was laid not just by a President, but by a Master Mason, using the working tools of the Craft.
The apron he wore that day? The same one gifted to him by Lafayette.
A nation built on principle. Dedicated with purpose. Founded by brothers.

At Medford Lodge #178, we are proud to carry forward the same traditions that echoed across that hillside in 1793.

Tuesday night, two brothers took their next step on the Masonic journey.

Medford Lodge No. 178 was proud to confer the Fellowcraft Degree, and we were honored to do so in the presence of distinguished Grand Lodge staff who joined us for the evening.

But here's something worth knowing about this moment…
The Fellowcraft Degree is one of the oldest and most enduring rituals in all of Freemasonry - a tradition stretching back centuries, passed from brother to brother, lodge to lodge, generation to generation. Last night, that unbroken chain grew a little longer.

To our two newest Fellowcrafts, welcome to the next step of the journey. The best is still ahead. 🤝
