Tufts for Health Equity (THE) is an organization that supports partner health organizations in developing countries, organizes global health education on campus, and leads trips to work with partners in communities abroad. Tufts for Health Equity believes that students are in a perfect position to contribute to health equity given the vast resources present in the University setting. These resourc

es include access to other students, professors, experts in a given field, funding, and more. THE components include year-long education and fundraising campaigns, on-site student internships, and community building within each university community and with THE's partner community. Our Partner, PHASE Nepal, Standing for Practical Help Achieving Self-Empowerment, PHASE Nepal was established in 2006 by a group of professionals from different sectors of Nepal. PHASE Nepal’s approach is called Community Development Programme (CDP) and serves to empower both communities and individuals at every level. Invested in providing equal opportunity to eliminate poverty, PHASE Nepal is focused in three main districts: Sindhupalchok, Gorkha, and Humla. They are a non-governmental and non-profit organization that aims to help build “self-sufficient futures” for various remote villages in the Himalayan region of Nepal that lack access to basic health services. Their main objective to “improve the livelihoods of rural people by providing immediate support” falls within seven different components – basic health services, education, agriculture and forestry, gender and social inclusion, infrastructure development, strengthening the institutional capacity of groups, and conflict mitigation and social justice. We are thrilled to develop strong long-term relationships with our partner organizations PHASE Nepal where the relationship is based on solidarity. We hope you will join us in the movement for health and social justice. We are passionate about working with them to break the cycle of poverty in the Himalayas through community efforts to promote health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and social justice! Hey everyone I’m Tommy and I’m the co-head of Community Building! I’m a sophomore majoring in biochemistry and I’m originally from Shrewsbury, MA. In my free time I listen to a lot of music, skateboard, check out local places to eat/get drinks, and go rock climbing (I’m on the rec team at Tufts, too). Hi everyone! I’m Chelsea and I’m one of the co-directors of Community Bonding! I am a sophomore, majoring in biology and biotechnology on the pre-dental track. I am from Weymouth, MA and love THE because of the people:) Planning our weekly bonding activities is one of the highlights of my weeks and getting to know everyone who has similar passions as me has made my time here at Tufts such a better experience. My name is Elli Cho and I am the Communications and Marketing co-director! I am a sophomore and majoring in Community Health. I was born and raised in Orange County, California 🌅. I enjoy swimming in the ocean and laying in the sun at the beach with a good beach read 😌. I am a foodie and love going into the city whenever I get the chance! hey everyone! I am arielle, and I one of the co-directors of campaigns! at tufts, I am studying biopsychology and community health, with a minor in political science! Hi everyone! My name is Joseph, one of the co-directors for Campaigns this year. I’m a junior majoring in Biochem, minoring in medical anthropology. I’m originally from New York, but am moving to Boston. In my free time, I enjoy binging Netflix series, doing sports w/ friends, and playing a little too much Smash Bros. I love how THE gives us the chance to critically consider the issue of health, particularly from a variety of perspectives brought by members of the club and our partner organization PHASE Nepal.
