On Saturday night, May 23rd, Boston Firefighter nd Marine veteran Robert "BK" Kilduff, Jr. made the timate sacrifice in the line of duty.
BK, a member of Rescue Company 2, suffered catastrophic injuries after falling from the third floor of a burning home at 18 Treadway Road in Dorchester. Despite the extraordinary efforts of fellow firefighters on scene, Boston EMS, and the staff at Boston Medical Center, BK succumbed to his injuries.
He leaves behind two adult children, a loving girlfriend, and her children.
BK dedicated his life to serving others. Whether as a United States Marine, a Boston firefighter, or during his 15 years working for the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, BK was always willing to step up and help anyone in need. He was known throughout the PFFM and IAFF as someone who could always be counted on, no matter the task, the hour, or the challenge.
His commitment to the fire service, organized labor, and helping others left a lasting impact on so many people across Massachusetts and beyond.
BK's loss is being felt deeply by his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and the communities he spent his life protecting and serving. During this incredibly difficult time, we are asking for your support for those he leaves behind.
Please consider making a donation in memory of Robert
"ВК" Kilduff, Jr. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will help support his family and honor the legacy of a man who gave so much to others throughout his life.

The Medford Firefighters Union would like to share the outcome of a recent arbitration decision and provide our community with a clear understanding of what occurred.

In this case, the City imposed severe discipline on a veteran Captain with over 30 years of service, including a double demotion, a three-month suspension, and a one-year suspension from working overtime and details. The City alleged sick leave abuse as the basis for these actions.

Following arbitration, the ruling found that these claims were not supported. The Captain has been fully reinstated to his rank, and the City has been ordered to make him whole. This includes back pay for his three-month suspension, compensation for all missed overtime and details, and the difference in pay for the time he was improperly demoted.

This decision represents another in a series of arbitration outcomes that have affirmed the position of the Medford Firefighters Union. In many of these cases, clear language within our Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable law has supported our members’ rights from the outset.

We remain hopeful that moving forward, these matters can be resolved without the need for costly and unnecessary arbitration. In this case specifically, a private investigator was contracted by the city to follow the firefighter around, only proving he was doing nothing wrong. The continued litigation not only strains resources but ultimately impacts the TAXPAYERS of Medford.

As always, our focus remains on serving this community with professionalism, integrity, and pride. We will continue to stand up for our members while ensuring the highest level of service to the residents of Medford.

Nick Spinale, 28, and member of Chelmsford Local 1839 for two and a half years, was injured on Tuesday morning during the performance of his duties, training other firefighters. Nick fell approximately 40 feet from a window and sustained multiple serious injuries, including facial fractures, severe internal organ damage, and fractures to both wrists. He faces a long road to recovery, including several surgeries to fix his injuries. Nick has two uncles that are Medford Firefighters so any support is greatly appreciated. We are pleased to share that the union has secured yet another favorable decision in arbitration.

Despite recent claims suggesting that our organization is “not used to having a professional and experienced HR director,” the outcome once again reinforces what we have consistently maintained, our positions are grounded in the clear language of our Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable law.

Our union has always remained committed to protecting the rights, benefits, and working conditions of our members. That commitment will not change. When necessary, we will continue to utilize the grievance and arbitration process to ensure that the negotiated agreement is upheld and respected.

The union’s focus remains where it has always been, serving and protecting the residents of Medford, and protecting our union members rights!!!
