Hello! We are incredibly excited to introduce our club, Pancreufts. Our goal is to spread awareness about pancreatic diseases.
What is the pancreas? The pancreas is an organ located in the abdomen and plays an important role in our digestion by breaking down food with enzymes and regulating our blood sugar levels and appetites with hormones such as insulin. Pancreatic diseases such as diabetes, pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer are often severe, life-altering, and deadly.
Why now? Pancreatic cancer is responsible for 7% of all cancer deaths in the United States, making it the 4th leading cause of cancer death whereas diabetes afflicts 10.5% of Americans and is the 7th leading cause of death in the US. With no screening tests available for pancreatic cancer and soaring insulin prices, our organization seeks to spread awareness about these often overlooked issues.
We would love for you to join our fight! Pancreufts will host events such as discussions and fundraisers each semester. Our GIM will be on Tuesday, September 21 at 8pm. Fill out our general interest form to become a member and get notified about our events!
