PSA: Somerville Fireworks Display Tonight (6/30)
Please be advised that the City of Somerville is holding its annual Fourth of July celebration tonight (6/30) at Trum Field on Broadway. The event includes a large professional fireworks display beginning at approximately 9:00pm.
This is simply an informational notice for Medford residents, particularly those in the South Medford area, as this fireworks display has generated numerous calls to our Emergency Communications Center in previous years. We also wanted to give a heads-up to anyone with pets or sensitivities to loud noises.
According to somervillema.gov, the following road closures within the City of Medford are expected for the event:
5:00 p.m. – Midnight
Williams Street at Winter Hill Road: No access to Broadway
Williams Street at Albion Street: No access to Winter Hill Road
This is also a good reminder that the use of consumer fireworks is ILLEGAL in Massachusetts. Fireworks may only be used by licensed professionals with the appropriate permits.
Over the next week, there will be several professional fireworks displays and holiday celebrations throughout the area. If you observe the illegal use of fireworks in Medford, please only call our non-emergency line at 781-395-1212 if you can identify the specific location where they are being set off.
