Good morning, Lakers! We have another freezing cold weekend ahead of us so Chief McGinnis & Sgt. McHugh (both ice hockey enthusiasts) went out to Beach 1 to check the ice and want to share some ice safety tips.

❄️ ICE SAFETY REMINDER ❄️

Red flags are up and all children must be supervised!

⚠️ No ice is ever 100% safe
🧊 Check Ice Thickness
4"+ walking / ice skating

🌡️ Be Extra Careful After
Warm weather
Rain
Snow cover (hides weak spots)

🚫 Avoid Dangerous Areas
Inlets & outlets
Docks & shorelines
Moving water, springs, vegetation

👥 Go with a Buddy
Never go alone
Tell someone where you’re going

🧰 Carry Safety Gear
Rope or throw bag
Whistle
Life jacket or float suit

🐾 Protect Pets & Kids
Keep pets on a leash near ice
Children need supervision at all times

🚨 If Someone Falls Through
Call 911 immediately
Stay low, spread weight
Use a rope or long object—don’t stand at the edge

Each lake is different—even on the same day

Medford Lakes Tree Lighting Ceremony
hosted by the Lions Club

1 Caben Circle @ Oaks Hall and Ballinger Lake

Come enjoy some refreshments, caroling with the Girl Scouts, a reading of "The Night Before Christmas" and a special visit from Santa Claus on the Fire Truck!
