The Virginia Recreation and Park Society is a private, non-profit professional organization, founded in 1953 and incorporated in 1956. Its purpose is to unite all professionals, students, and interested lay persons engaged in the field of recreation, parks and other leisure services in the Commonwealth of Virginia, into one body. VRPS is an affiliate of the National Recreation and Park Association.

Today, communities across the Commonwealth are celebrating the power of play, connection, recreation, and time spent together outdoors.

From special events and programs to parks, trails, playgrounds, pools, and community spaces, our participating agencies are helping Virginians unplug, get active, and make memories on the longest day of the year.

As communities across Virginia prepare to celebrate the Summer Solstice through play, exploration, and connection, Northern Virginia Magazine highlighted the many free family-friendly activities taking place throughout Northern Virginia as part of VRPS's statewide Play All Day VA initiative.

From outdoor adventures and family games to fitness activities, nature experiences, and community events, Play All Day VA is all about encouraging Virginians to step outside, connect with others, and discover the power of play.

⚾☀️ PLAY ALL DAY VA IS HEADING TO THE BALLPARK! ☀️⚾

Celebrate the longest day of the year with an evening of community, sunshine, and hometown baseball at historic Calfee Park in Pulaski County!

📅 June 21, 2026
🚪 Gates Open: 4:00 PM
⚾ First Pitch: 5:30 PM

Join the Pulaski River Turtles and Pulaski County Parks & Recreation as they turn the Summer Solstice into a celebration of play, connection, and fun for all ages.

🎉 Event Highlights:
📸 Snap a photo with the River Turtle at the Play All Day VA photo station and enjoy complimentary professional photos courtesy of PCHS Media.
🎟️ Free admission for the first 500 fans through the gates.
🍦 The first 100 patrons at the concession stand will receive a free soft-serve ice cream cone.

There’s no better way to celebrate Play All Day VA than with friends, family, baseball, and a beautiful summer evening at the ballpark!
