What happens when physician board preparation outcomes are analyzed across multiple programs rather than in isolation? 🧠

This poster, presented at the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) conference by Tracy Adams, Program Manager of the KSTAR program (a competency assessment, remediation and reentry program operated by Texas A&M Health), highlights combined findings from board preparation programs delivered through LifeGuard, KSTAR, and CPEP. By examining results across all three programs, the presentation provides a more comprehensive view of outcomes for physicians seeking re-eligibility to sit for their respective board certification exams.

Conference attendees noted that seeing the collective results offered valuable insight into the effectiveness of these programs and the important role they play in supporting physicians as they work toward continued professional practice and certification.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a time that provides a great opportunity to reflect on the unique mental health needs of physicians. 💚

Due to cultural stigma around mental health, physicians are often less likely to seek mental health support than the general population. Fear of professional fallout and invasive medical licensing questions deter many doctors from getting care--but it doesn't have to be that way.

Taking care of your mental health is not a sign of weakness. It's an essential part of providing the best care for your patients, your colleagues, and yourself. The Foundation's Physicians' Health Program (PHP) provides confidential support, resources, and guidance for physicians, residents, other eligibile license types, and students facing challenges related to mental health, burnout, substance use, and overall well-being.

Recent federal loan changes under HR-1 — including the elimination of Grad PLUS loans and new lifetime and annual borrowing caps — are creating new financial barriers for medical students. Andrea Jakubowski, a fourth-year DO/MPH dual-degree student, is among the first to feel the impact directly.
