SCPAHS serves as PennDOT’s Community Traffic Safety Program for Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, and Perry Counties.

We work to prevent traffic-related injuries and fatalities through driver, passenger, and pedestrian education. We can help your organization or business reduce the number of crashes that may involve your employees. Missed work days result in lower profitability. We can help you make your children safe by providing a Child Passenger Safety Program. We can help student to understand the risks of no

t wearing a seat belt and/or driving under the influence of alcohol. Just think of the educational opportunities your organization could provide to its employees at no cost! These programs are excellent for classroom settings or large group assemblies. However, all our programs can be formatted for specific audiences and are, once again, free of charge! 🤔Why Do Car Seats Expire? ❌ The answer IS NOT because car seat manufacturers want you to buy a new seat. 💰
⭐Car seats are designed to protect children during one of the most violent events they may ever experience—a vehicle crash. Over time, several factors can affect a car seat's ability to perform as intended:
☀️ Extreme temperatures – Car seats endure years of hot summers and freezing winters inside vehicles.
👶 Daily use and wear – Children climb in and out hundreds, sometimes thousands, of times over the life of a seat.
🚙 Vehicle changes – New vehicle designs can impact how car seats install and perform.
📋 Safety standards evolve – Manufacturers continually improve car seat designs as new research and technologies become available.

Before using any car seat, always check the manufacturer's expiration date and instructions. Using an expired seat may mean your child is not receiving the level of protection the seat was originally designed to provide.

Gearing up for a family RV adventure? You should know that motorized RVs aren’t recommended for transporting children.👶🏾
⭐If you want to bring children along on your trip, try these safety-friendly alternatives instead:
🌞Have an adult drive a second car behind the RV. Instead of riding in the RV, children can ride in the vehicle where they can be restrained properly.
🌞Use a non-motorized, towable RV. Children can ride in the passenger vehicle that is pulling the RV.
🌞Select an RV with seats built to comply with federal seat belt standards.
