Speranza Animal Rescue A 501c3 Non Profit Rescue, Rehabilitation Center, and Sanctuary. In the spring of 2012 Speranza Animal Rescue was officially established.

The Speranza Story:
Janine Guido is a Carlisle High School graduate who has always had a passion for helping animals in need. At the age of 27, she realized that this was more than a hobby to her; this was her purpose in life. Speranza means “hope” in Italian. converting spare stalls in the horse barn on her parents’ farm in Monroe Township into kennels and using every penny to her name, Janine started rescuing as many dogs as possible from high kill shelters and other unfortunate circumstances. Janine is committed to saving the dogs that no one else will; the abused, neglected, and ones in need of much veterinary care. She works with several local veterinarians, and not-so-local specialists, to ensure that her animals not only get the love and affection that they deserve, but also all of the medical attention that they need. Speranza has taken in dogs with dislocated shoulders, broken bones, many cases of severe skin infection, a few heart worm infected dogs, several dogs requiring eye surgeries, several cases of starvation and a variety of other issues. Resources and space and the only things that limit the animals saved. The reality of the situation is that if Speranza is going to be committed to saving the dogs in the most need of medical attention, then Speranza is also going to have to be committed to continual fundraising to support the mission. Speranza Animal Rescue received its 501c3 Tax-Deductible Non-Profit status from the IRS in early 2014, making all donations tax deductible. Speranza is committed to saving as many animals as possible and finding them their forever homes. The hours required and dollars needed to save and rehabilitate these animals in need will not deter Janine from pursuing the mission of Speranza Animal Rescue. Rescue Rehab and Haven

Speranza Animal Rescue has saved dogs from a variety of grim situations. Janine has spent hours in the rain to catch a stray, entered numerous abandoned dwellings not knowing what she would find, saved many dogs from euthanasia in shelters, stepped up to take in countless injured dogs and has driven hours to help with hoarding situations… just to name a few. Speranza is an all breed, all species rescue. However, our mission has brought more Pit Bull Terriers and other bully breeds through the rescue than any other breed. Janine has saved small dogs and large dogs, Labs and Hounds, but Speranza takes much pride in supporting the Pit Bull Breed. Janine has made a commitment to save the true under dogs; regardless of how much time or money it will take to make the animal healthy, happy and carefree. She has a special gift that allows her to take a terrified, neglected dog and, with time and affection, turn it into a loving, friendly dog. Speranza has not shied away from an ailment or injury yet. Several of our dogs have had life saving surgeries and several others have had surgeries to improve overall quality of life. Speranza is fortunate to have tremendous support from local veterinarians, wonderful volunteers and it is located on a beautiful green countryside farm. We have found this combination to work wonders on these animals. Speranza Animal Rescue is not only a rescue, but it is also a haven for the dogs that are not adoptable, due to medical or behavioral issues. There is no time limit for dogs at Speranza. Every animal that comes to Speranza is guaranteed a lifetime of love, green pastures and happiness; until they find their perfect home or for the rest of their natural life. Happy one week strong Princess Perriwinkle 💗✨👑

It’s been a real team effort among the volunteers with around the clock medication and every 4 -6 hour feedings.

Perri- you wouldn’t be here today if you weren’t a fighter, sweet girl. Please keep fighting- we have so much to show you yet 💗

(**She is on stall mats because she eats shavings and develops choke- due to being so hungry. So for her safety she’s only on mats at this time.**).

MILES UPDATE !

“Good morning !
Just wanted to give you an update on Miles from overnight. He is still eating really well, has a great appetite, and is tolerating his food without any vomiting or regurgitation, which is encouraging! We are continuing to slowly increase his food intake because his body has been so severely depleted of nutrition, and we have to be careful not to overwhelm his system too quickly.

Our biggest concern overnight was that his blood sugar continued to drop, and he had a few episodes where he became very weak and stumbled when trying to walk. We gave him additional glucose through his IV and increased the amount of sugar in his fluids to help keep his levels up. His temperature also dropped overnight, so we used a warming blanket, and his temperature has returned to normal. We checked his heart rhythm and blood pressure as well. His blood pressure was good, and his heart rate increased appropriately when he was moving around, which was reassuring.

The good news is that his anemia is showing signs of recovery, and his blood counts have remained stable following his transfusion. His electrolytes also look good, which is important as we continue increasing his nutrition. His blood sugar has improved, although it is still lower than we would like, so we are continuing to monitor that very closely.

I do think Miles is making progress, but his body has been through a tremendous amount, and he still has a lot of recovering to do. Right now, our focus is on keeping his blood sugar stable, gradually getting more nutrition into him, and giving his body the support it needs to regain strength. We're continuing to watch him closely and will keep you updated on his progress.”

‼️Our bill surpassed 10 grand last night and I hate to ask but please donate if you’re able. We will keep fighting for Miles but need your help 💗

Perriwinkle 💗✨👑 got vet approval to take the tiniest stroll to stretch her legs.

This is the First time out of her stall since coming to us 6 days ago. Shes still so weak , so we have to take very small steps in building strength. 💗

Where are they now Wednesday?

Dog: Bodhi (was Brayden)
Adopted 2023

Thanks for reaching out for an update on Bodhi, formerly Brayden.
We always loved following Speranza and admired the work you do. We wanted to someday be able to adopt a dog from them. A little over 3 years ago we were looking at your page and saw this cute big-headed boy. We always had labs, which we love, but never a pit bull. We had to meet him so we reached out and set up a meeting with him at Laurie's house. All 120 lbs of him came walking over to us...he looked like a linebacker...lol...he laid down at our feet and rolled on his back for belly rubs. We adopted him in July 2023. From the 1st day with us, it was like he lived here his whole life. He settled right in....no issues. He loves lying with us on the couch or recliner...he thinks he is a lapdog. He gets the zoomies about once a day for about a minute but then he needs a nap...lol. Our neighbors all love him and when they are out, he has to go say hi.
We never had a pit bull before. We heard they were sweet and loving and he certainly is that. We love him sooo much!

WHERE ARE THEY NOW WEDNESDAY

Dog: Momo (now Winter) 🌈
Adopted 2020

Thank you for reaching out, Winter was with us till a year ago when we finally had to put her to sleep. She was loved by our family and especially our youngest daughter who was unfortunately away at college when had to make that huge choice. She lives on in a huge picture with individual pictures of her through the years, that sits in her room or goes with her when she goes back to school. Here is one of the last pictures we have of her…

MILES UPDATE. 💙

“Good morning! Miles is doing well this morning! He is resting comfortably, very interested in interacting with everyone, and his abdomen is comfortable when examined. He is also eating well!

We did get some encouraging news on his bloodwork. His red blood cell count is still quite low at 15%, but we are finally seeing evidence that his bone marrow is producing new red blood cells! This is a really positive development, although it will take time for his anemia to improve.

I did take some abdominal X-rays this morning to evaluate how well his stomach is emptying following surgery. There was still some food present two hours after eating, although his stomach was not distended. Given how significant his gastrointestinal issues were, I don't want to assume everything is moving normally just because he is eating and not vomiting. I'm going to repeat the X-rays before his next feeding to make sure things are progressing appropriately.

We are also being very careful with his nutrition. Because he was so severely underweight and malnourished, increasing his calories too quickly can actually cause some serious complications. We are continuing small, controlled meals and will gradually increase his food intake over the next few weeks as his body adjusts.

Overall, I'm encouraged by how comfortable and interactive he is and especially happy to see his body finally starting to produce new red blood cells. We still have some things to monitor closely, but he is certainly making progress! “
