Weekly Devotional: Faith and Film - Price Check: Unexpected Grace

We began a new series entitled "Faith and Film" on Sunday. We examined the surprises and joys of grace that God and others give us. Grace is not "cheap". There is a cost of discipleship (see Bonhoeffer) that requires us to seek a changed heart and mind. There is a common misconception in Christianity that we are to love people where they are, and that is it. Nothing else. The issue is that we often downplay the healing and transformative power of God. Yes, we are called to love people where they are and to seek what is better for them in God. You see, friends, God created that person. We did not. God can heal that person in ways that we never can. When we give people to God, it is an act of amazing grace and unselfish love. It is gracious because love is a choice--an action verb of sorts. God calls us to join Him in setting others free. Are you up for the challenge?

Reflection Thoughts/Questions:

1. How do you handle unplanned interruptions in your day?
2. Being gracious does not mean we lack boundaries. Establish boundaries when you work with people who need healing.
3. Love does not mean agreement. You can love someone that you disagree with.

Thankful to serve with these ladies at Mission Central on Tuesday. I lost track of how many hygiene kits we packed as they kept things moving.

Weekly Devotional: Peace of Mind - Jesus and Mental Health - Whole and Holy: Getting HELP

On Sunday, we wrapped up our series on Peace of Mind: Jesus and Mental Health. This series covered: breaking the stigma of mental health, anxiety/panic attacks, depression, automatic negative thoughts (ANTs), and last but not least, getting help for yourself. Getting help for yourself is important because you do not live on an island. We all live in a community, and getting help for ourselves is important so our wounds do not bleed on everyone else. Here is the beauty of tackling your MH needs holistically. Jesus can take your wounds and, in His time, turn them into scars. Scars have stories. Your scars would be a reminder of God's faithfulness to you and your willingness to get the help you needed to get well.

If you need help, please let me know. I am aware of MH resources; however, there are many others I do not know about. I have plenty of MH contacts that can aid us in the journey as I walk beside you.

Reflection Questions/Thoughts:

1. Do you need MH resources to help you?
2. If you are hesitant to get help, spend some time identifying why you are not acting on it.
3. Treat mental health like you would physical or spiritual health. It is all connected anyway
