Stoopid HurtZ!! Please use good judgment and safe duning practices. Keep in mind that SEVERAL NEW OR INEXPERIENCED dune users will be out this holiday weekend!

At the Silver Lake Recreation Association (SLRA), we proudly advocate for our fellow Duners and the vibrant Silver Lake community. While we don’t run the ORV park, our mission is to support and enhance the experience of everyone who enjoys these incredible dunes—the largest Dunes east of the Mississippi River. Through initiatives like our DuneSense campaign, we promote safety, awareness, and responsible recreation, ensuring the dunes remain a space for unforgettable adventures while protecting this unique environment. We also embrace the motto "Stoopid HurtZ!" to encourage smart, safety-focused decision-making. It’s a lighthearted way to remind everyone that preparation and caution lead to the best memories on the dunes. SLRA is dedicated to fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration between Duners, local businesses, and visitors. Whether you’re here to ride, explore, or simply enjoy the scenery, we’re here to advocate for you and ensure the Silver Lake area thrives for years to come. Stay safe, have fun, and let’s keep the spirit of the dunes alive! — The Silver Lake Recreation Association Team

From the Michigan DNR:

The morning commute can be tough, but it can be even tougher when you're a turtle. Turtles have places to go this time of year, and they could use our help to get there safely. Here’s how:

Only help a turtle cross the road if it’s safe for you, the turtle, and other drivers. Don’t try to stop fast-moving traffic on a busy road.

Pick up the turtle securely by its shell, and watch out for the claws, the biting end, and the yucky end. Turtles will scratch, bite and relieve themselves when they feel threatened.

Move the turtle in the direction they were traveling and point them away from the road.

Wear gloves if you have some on hand and/or be sure to wash your hands after touching a turtle.

Never pick up a turtle by its tail! You can cause permanent injuries. If you can’t pick up a turtle safely, you can use a stick, shovel or broom to nudge it in the direction it needs to go.

You might be wondering, why does the turtle cross the road? To find a mate, a suitable nesting site, new food sources, and other turtle activities. Thanks for helping Michigan’s turtles get where they need to go!

Good story from The Echo:

M20 is open for traffic now that the surface portion of the Tunnel project is ready for motorists. Improvements include a new right turn lane on M20 for eastbound traffic entering 68th Avenue and the addition of a center turn lane, widening, and new pavement on 68th Avenue. The base paint on the face and wing walls of the tunnel with contrasting color staining is complete, and the pedestrian fence has been installed. The contractor has installed seeding, mulch, blanket, and riprap for slope protection. It really has a nice appearance. Both roads have striping installed. Work will continue on the tunnel, including electrical and lighting.

From the Grand Haven State Park:
***PLEASE NOTE THIS IS GRAND HAVEN, NOT SILVER LAKE***
Swim Light and Safety Update – 2026 Season
The swim buoys at Grand Haven State Park were placed in the water today. With the buoys now in place, we will begin posting our daily water condition updates for the 2026 season.
Our daily posts will include:
• Current water hazard level
• Water temperature
• Wave height
Our beach uses a light‑based hazard system to share current water conditions:
• Green Light – Low hazard
• Yellow Light – Medium hazard
• Red Light – High hazard
• Double Red Light – Water access is closed
Each light has clearly marked letters next to it to help identify which color is illuminated.
For your safety, life rings are located at each of the eight area markers along the swim zone. Accessing a life ring will automatically contact Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority and alert emergency responders.
To learn more about safe swimming and Great Lakes conditions, visit: Michigan.gov/BeachSafety
We are committed to providing clear, accessible updates to help everyone plan a safe and enjoyable visit to the beach. If you need assistance understanding any of our posts, please reach out.

From the Oceana Conservation District :

The OCD hosted a birding event at the US Forest Service Pines Point area on the White River east of Hesperia. Our group of 10, led by Technician Lynda Herremans, identified more than 30 birds by sight and sound. One of the highlights for everyone was when one of the group of birders spotted a tiny ruby-throated hummingbird nest up in a tree after watching two adults come and go. The white-breasted nuthatch on the left was just one other of the many birds enjoyed on this beautiful spring day!
