The Meadville Garden Club has selected the gardens of Tom and Connie Youngblood of 648 Warren Avenue for the August 2025 Garden of the Month. After the owners replaced deteriorating shrubs with transplanted hostas/gladiolas from their parents and brought in topsoil, Tom designed and laid the stones to create a double waterfall ending in a Koi pond. The school of 10 fish include Myan Koi, Nishikigoi, and goldfish, which are protected from a visiting Blue Heron by a decoy that must be moved around to maintain the deception. Other birds attracted to this sanctuary are finches, hummingbirds, cardinals and blue jays; and a large area of Milkweed homes Monarch butterflies. A large vegetable garden and yarrow, zinnias, bearded iris, marigolds and a Larch tree encircle the area. Since Tom’s passing, their son Nathan and friend Mike help Connie care for this beautiful aquatic haven in the City of Meadville.

The Meadville Garden Club has selected the gardens of Anthony Quindardo of 374 Byllesby Avenue for the July 2025 Garden of the Month. Since purchasing his home in 2017, the owner has removed overgrowth and planted a gorgeous array of perennials.
Including: stokes and aromatic asters, phlox, lupine, cobalt blue delphiniums, dianthus, many different kinds of yarrow and lilies, cardinal flower, coral bells, Cherokee sunset rudbeckia, hollyhocks, liatris and false indigo just to name a few. These are surrounded by hostas, false Cyprus and fern and a movable recycled rubber edging allowing the garden to change shape. Hummingbirds can be seen among the bee balm along with many species of bees, and Lepidoptera in the butterfly bushes. The owner credits his native gardener co-workers as well as his father for their influence, and he and his visitors enjoy getting back to nature in this garden that is a perennial pollinator’s paradise.
