Even though EUMA's Shelter Area Meadville emergency warming shelter is closed for the season, Erie United Methodist Alliance has year-round programs in Erie County. We hope to recruit enough volunteers to open more nights in Crawford County next winter, so we will need YOU! 📢

National housing organizations warn that cuts to federal rental assistance and affordable housing programs will reduce the number of available units and increase housing instability — especially in states like Pennsylvania where the affordability gap is already severe.

Send a message if you are interested in volunteering next winter. You can volunteer as little or as much as you wish: once/week or once/month. You will be added to the contact list for orientation that will likely be scheduled in September/October. Ask a friend or family member (over 18) to join you in supporting our unhoused neighbors in Crawford County 💜

It's an honor to be part of Erie United Methodist Alliance, serving our unhoused neighbors in NWPA.

Our team of "SAM" volunteers helped EUMA serve Crawford County with compassion and dedication to our unhoused citizens. We are grateful for the professional experience and guidance of EUMA, an agency who has been addressing homelessness for more than 100 years (late 1800's) 💜

Approximately 50% of renters and 24% of homeowners in America spend more than 30% of their income on housing, leaving little cushion for emergencies. Over 11 million families are currently behind on rent or mortgage payments. Many are living paycheck to paycheck, one or two paychecks away from a housing crisis.

It is our privilege to share the journeys of people in Crawford County who are working to get their lives back on track while experiencing a housing crisis. Consider joining us as a volunteer next winter!

While Shelter Area Meadville (SAM), Crawford County’s overnight shelter, hasn’t reached the temperature threshold recently, they officially closed their doors for the season on April 1.

We would be remiss if we didn’t take a moment to celebrate them! Like ONP, SAM is largely volunteer driven, supported by a dedicated community of donors. We are incredibly proud of the partnerships built, the faithful volunteers, and everyone who has supported Shelter Area Meadville this season.

To our volunteers: we are endlessly grateful. The overnight shifts, your collaboration, and the care you show others is a beautiful gift to those who need it most. You have loved as you were commanded, advocated as if for Jesus himself, and shared God’s love with those who may feel forgotten. You are an inspiration.

To our donors: thank you for walking this critical path with us. Your generosity makes this work possible and empowers our volunteers to truly be the hands and feet of Christ in this community.

Together, we are making homelessness rare, brief, and one-time—just as Jesus would. We are honored to serve alongside all of you.

Many blessings and heartfelt gratitude!

We are CLOSED for the season 📣

We are incredibly grateful for all our volunteers who made EUMA's Shelter Area Meadville possible this winter!

We appreciate each person who signed up for shifts even on nights we weren't open. We were able to keep our unhoused neighbors safe on dangerously cold nights this winter. Stay tuned for stats on how many people we served.

Congratulations to all our friends who obtained secure housing through referrals to our community partners!
