We just heard that Larry and Autumn is out canvassing. We are also hearing they are making some of the same false promises/claims as before.
First, Meadville City Council can NOT get your rent lowered. Meadville's rents are below average so there is no way "rent control" can be imposed.
Second, landlords are NOT against safe housing. We are against a duplicate program that violates your constitutional rights and invades your privacy.
Third, when NOT over regulated, landlords (investors) buy up blighted properties and improve them. This is why Meadville's blight problem has gotten worse over the last 4 years. This current city council has started a war on landlords and the the city is suffering because of it.
Fourth, just like every business in the world, an increase operating cost must be past on to the consumer. Therefore, forcing more regulation onto landlords raises operating cost, which raises rents. Think of it this way, the city council says the fees are so low that the landlords should just absorb it. I ask, if the fees are so low, and council feels so strongly about this program, why are they NOT absorbing the cost?

The sad part, they are coming after the other business owner next. Don't believe me? Read the proposed changes to the zoning ordinance.

Some insight into the lawsuit the landlords were forced to bring against Meadville.
If you read the lawsuit, you will see the landlords are fighting for your constitutional rights.

We reached out to local landlord, Alysia Mowad, regarding the lawsuit that Meadville Landlords United has filed against the city of Meadville. We did so, as her name appeared on the verification page in the lawsuit against the city. While she stated she couldn't divulge too many details beyond what....

This is the divisiveness of the Meadville City Council. We supplied pictures of the upgrades local landlords do to their properties. Larry was invited to take a closer look at properties. But instead, he chose to make unfounded and defamatory statements.
We aren't suggesting that there aren't a small portion of landlord that fit Larry's description. But for him to make a blanket statement like this is reprehensible and he should resign.

You may be hearing some false information, concerning retaliatory evictions, coming from members of Meadville City Council or various city residents.
We would like to set the record straight.
Pennsylvania has laws preventing landlords' self-help evictions.
Attached is the eviction schedule, as published every month in The Apartment Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania, Inc. newsletter and internet sources.
The first step in the eviction process is for the landlord to give the tenant a MINIMUM of 5 days to rectify the lease violation(s).
If the lease violations are not corrected, then the landlord MUST file the appropriate form with the District Magistrate's (DM) office.
The DM will set a court date and the landlord MUST provide evidence of the lease violations. The tenant is then able to dispute the validity of the alleged violation(s), and supply their evidence of such.
Based on the evidence presented, THE COURT DECIDES if the eviction is merited or not.
The tenant or the landlord both have the right to appeal the judgment.

Note: some of the documents provided here may be the property of the Apartment Association and available for use only by their members.

A good article describing the eviction process is available here:

I strongly object to the implementation of a rental unit registration and licensing program, in the city of Meadville, at a cost in the range of $40 to $45. This, in addition to any increase in City taxes, storm management fee, water, sewage and garbage rates, as well as inflation. All of which will...
