Dear Senator X,

I am writing as a concerned veteran/family member/advocate to express my support for SB1703’s intent to help veterans, but to also highlight a critical area where this bill will unintentionally harm the very individuals it aims to assist.

As currently written, SB1703 does not address the important issue of VA accreditation for individuals providing assistance to veterans.

Adding an accreditation requirement does not impede veteran choice or limit the free market—it simply ensures that those who charge fees for helping veterans meet the same standards of accountability and oversight as accredited representatives. Individuals and businesses have the choice to become VA-accredited, which would allow them to operate lawfully while ensuring they meet federal guidelines designed to protect veterans. Veterans, in turn, still have the freedom to choose between free services provided by accredited Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) or paid services from accredited claims agents or attorneys who are legally required to follow federal regulations and consumer protections.

Accreditation is about ensuring transparency, preventing exploitation, and maintaining the integrity of the claims process—not restricting choice.

Please advocate for amending SB1703 to align with HB 2842, which ensures greater protection for veterans from exploitative practices while remaining in compliance with federal law.

Honor your commitment to protecting and serving by making sure that any Arizona veterans’ benefits claims bill signed into law has a clear requirement for VA accreditation by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs!

Vietnam Dustoff Crews to Receive Congressional Gold Medal: President Biden has signed the Dustoff Crews of the Vietnam War Congressional Gold Medal Act into law. Long sought by advocates, this legislation recognizes the pilots, crew chiefs, and medics who served honorably during the Vietnam War aboard helicopter air ambulances. The honor is collectively awarded to the more than 3,000 service members who flew between combat zones and field hospitals. Plans for the official Congressional Gold Medal presentation ceremony are under way and will be announced by the White House.
