Today is **National Dog Day**, and around here, we think that’s worth celebrating! ❤️🐾

At **Golden State German Shepherd Rescue**, we know dogs aren’t just pets. They become our companions, our couch buddies, our walking partners, our alarm clocks, our emotional support specialists, and sometimes the reason there’s dog hair in places we didn’t even know existed. 😂

Every dog that comes through our rescue has a story. Some have been abandoned. Some have been neglected. Some have simply found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But with a little patience, a safe place, and a whole lot of love, they get the chance to become the dog they were always meant to be. ❤️

# # # 🎉 LET’S MAKE THIS INTERACTIVE!

Tell us about **YOUR dog** in the comments!

🐶 **What is your dog's name?**
❤️ **How did they come into your life?**
😂 **What is their funniest or strangest habit?**
🛋️ **Where is their favorite place to sleep?**
🐾 **And if you had to describe them in THREE words, what would they be?**

And here’s the big one:

👇 **Post a picture of your dog in the comments!** 👇

Let’s fill this post with German Shepherds!

Because every dog deserves to know what it feels like to be **safe, loved, and home.** 🐾❤️

**Happy National Dog Day from all of us at Golden State German Shepherd Rescue!**

A Perfect Match for Shaya ❤️🐾

Sometimes, rescue gives you a moment that makes every hard day, every long night, and every tear completely worth it.

Our sweet Shaya has found her foster-to-adopt forever home, and we could not be happier about the match. She has the sweetest dog companion in Moose, and Shaya’s foster mom is absolutely thrilled to see these two begin their journey together. 🥹❤️

Shaya’s new family has loved many rescue pups over the years. Their caring and open hearts, combined with their experience, patience, and readiness to welcome this little girl into their home, make this such a wonderful match.

Thank you, Michelle, Chris, Bella, and Moose, for saying YES to rescue and YES to Shaya. ❤️

Our hearts are filled with joy knowing this little girl has found a family who will love her, guide her, and give her the wonderful life she deserves.

Perfect match. Perfect family. Perfect little girl. 🐾❤️

This is why we rescue. This is why we keep going. And this is what makes it all worth it. ✨

🐾 MEET OZZY — AKA “OZ MAN”! 🐾

Ozzy is a 5-month-old male GSD mix who is an absolute snuggle bug! He loves being with his people, is housebroken and crate trained, and is happiest when he can be close to his humans and foster siblings. ❤️

Ozzy was found as a young puppy roaming the streets of Avenal, CA, and he picked up a few “junkyard dog” traits along the way. He loves to collect things, will bark when he feels like he needs to protect his people, and has a hilarious habit of stealing his humans’ belongings just so he can bring them to his bed! 😂

🛏️ Ozzy sleeps with his humans and foster siblings and prefers to sprawl out at the very end of the bed.

💦 He is a TOTAL WATER DOG! If there’s water around, Ozzy wants to be in it!

🧸 He loves stuffed toys and playing with his foster siblings.

🤣 He has the funniest little quirk—when you pick him up, he opens his mouth like he’s trying to scream, but absolutely nothing comes out!

Ozzy is looking for a medium-active home. For a puppy, he is surprisingly chill and does a great job entertaining himself when he isn’t busy playing with his foster siblings. His fosters are currently working on his counter-surfing habit, and his favorite times of day are definitely breakfast and dinner! 🍽️

Ozzy is on the smaller side for a typical GSD, but his heart is HUGE! 💙

Ozzy will be neutered in September when he turns 6 months old.

If you’re looking for a sweet, fun, water-loving puppy with a big personality, Ozzy may be your guy! 🐶💙

Interested in meeting Ozzy? Please complete an adoption application, and his fosters will be in contact with you.

LUCY UPDATE: wonderful news about Lucy! ❤️ Six weeks post-surgery and already back to playing with her foster siblings—and spending every day in the pool—sounds like she’s feeling so much better. What a little water baby! 🐶💦

It’s also encouraging that she’s healing well enough to come off kennel restriction. Hopefully her December 7 follow-up at UC Davis brings even more good news and confirms that she won’t need another surgery. Keeping everything crossed for sweet Lucy! 🐾💕

💗 DONATIONS WOULD HELP WITH LUCY’S VET BILLS! 💗

Lucy is doing so well and continues to heal beautifully! So far, we have paid $6,700 toward her veterinary care, and she will be returning to UC Davis on December 7 for a follow-up appointment to determine whether she will need another surgery.

Any donation, no matter the amount, would be greatly appreciated and will help us continue providing Lucy with the care she needs. 🐾❤️

Lucy will also be up for adoption soon! If you are interested in giving this sweet girl a loving forever home, please fill out an adoption application.

Thank you for supporting Lucy and being part of her journey! 💕🐶💦

🐾 LUCY WILL BE LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME SOON! 🐾

Lucy will require a low-to-medium activity home. Because of her deformity, she is already experiencing arthritis, so a less active lifestyle will be best for her and help keep her comfortable.

It will also be important for Lucy to stay on the leaner side, as excess weight can increase the pain and stress associated with her arthritis. ❤️

The good news? Lucy is a wonderful girl who does well with other dogs, cats, and little kids! 🐶🐱👧🧒

And if Lucy had her way, she’d love to have some little humans of her own to love and cuddle! 🥰 She has so much love to give and is ready to find a family who will cherish her and help her live her happiest, most comfortable life.

If you think Lucy could be the perfect addition to your family, please fill out an adoption application. 💕🐾

Maggie was returned to GSGSR but we decided she would be a great candidate for a new training program we are pursuing. We will be posting details and Maggie's progress as they come available.
-----,---------------------
**UPDATE***
Maggie's fosters are tentatively reevaluating their situation but have not made a final decision. If you are still interested in fostering (or adopting) Maggie, please complete a Foster Application.
----------------------
Maggie (formerly known as Tracy) is available for foster or as a foster-to-adopt. Her current foster home has decided that she needs more than they can offer her.

Maggie is approx. five months old. She is housebroken and crate trained. She does get carsick, but we are hoping she will outgrow that.

ONLY FOSTERS AND/OR ADOPTERS WHO HAVE GSD EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE and who have the resources (time, effort, and commitment) WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Maggie will be available for adoption as soon as she is spayed. Until then, interested parties, please complete a Foster Application https://gsgsrescue.org/foster/

(Note: Fosters and/or foster-to-adopters located in the Northern Central Valley or East Bay areas are preferable).
