All donations (up to $100k) will be matched by the Patterson Family Foundation! Our match funds go to support our biannual grant cycles and support our permanent funds for operating and future grants.

Starting last week, MCCF awarded our Summer 2026 Grant Funds. We had so much fun when we surprised our firefighters with their checks, we decided to do it again! Our grantees did not know they had received a grant yet when we showed up with our big check. We had everything from shock, smiles, to even happy tears. It was a great couple days for us!

The total funded for this round was $15,390. Between both grant cycles and our special fire department grants, MCCF has granted over $68,000 for 2026 alone and nearly $145,000 all time. We are so thankful to all of our incredible donors and partners that allow this to happen! The Patterson Family Foundation match is a huge component in this too. Without Match Month, we would not be able to do grants at the scale we have been able to the last few years.

The Meade County Conservation District received a special grant funded by the Western Kansas Community Foundation. This is another partnership we are so proud of. Thank you for making this happen!

During the May Meade County Fire Complex, our Fire Departments fought in full force for nearly a week. These firefighters spent countless hours away from their families, their homes, and their jobs to keep our people, homes, livestock, and properties safe. Many of them did this without a break for over 24 hours at a time. Truly, they put it all on the line and we cannot be more thankful for each and every one of you.

We saw fire wives, organizations, and other community members step up and make meals and collect supplies with retired firemen and others leading the way to get these out to our firefighters. Every single person that helped out made an impact no matter how big or small each contribution was.

Following the fires, many other community members helped out by hosting vendor events, fun runs, and benefit meals. In times like these, we really see how blessed we are in Meade County to have a community that steps up and supports each other.

Meade County Community Foundation served as a hub to those who wanted to help financially. MCCF was able to collect over $37,000, with more pledged that is still on the way! Many others donated directly to the local departments, with totals estimated to be around $100,000 collectively.

With all the hard work our firefighters put in, the MCCF board wanted to do something special to surprise them with their grant funds.

The first grant check was distributed to the Fowler Fire Department during the Threshing Days parade. Sheriff Ritter was in on it, and oh boy, were the firemen surprised when they saw the “emergency” was a great big check! We presented our grant check along with Alex Granados and added the total raised by his Harvest Fun Run for Heroes to make the surprise even bigger.

The Meade Fire Department received their grant check at last week’s Back-to-School bash. After grilling hot dogs and serving the community, the MCCF board presented the firemen with their great big check. The looks on their faces and the pure gratitude from them was truly heartwarming for us.

The last grant was awarded to the Plains Fire Department this week. MCCF was hosting a community meeting in Plains that evening. Earlier in the day, we received a phone call from the Fire Chief asking when our meeting would be wrapped up to ensure he could make it to the fire meeting following. We thought this would be a great opportunity to surprise them without them knowing what was going on! Because they got called out on a small fire a few hours prior to this, there were only a few firefighters at the fire house when the board arrived there. However, the firefighters sure were blown away when we presented them with their great big check!

It is always fun to distribute funds and help our community in this way. This time stood out for obvious reasons. We could not have done this without our generous donors and supporters. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of you and an even bigger thanks to our Fire Departments for keeping us safe!

PS, Unfortunately, it is hot and dry again with prime fire conditions. The fire departments are asking for everyone to be fire aware and to call in if you see smoke anywhere. Farmers, if you could help prepare for this by hooking up your discs, fueling up your tractors, and filling up water trailers they would appreciate it. We sure hope and pray it doesn’t come to that, but it is better to be prepared if the worst happens again.

Our social media spotlights a lot of what we do for nonprofits, but we don't always a great job of showcasing the donor side as well.

The Director's favorite type of fund donors can set up: a Donor Advised Fund (DAF).

A. It is truly a way where MCCF partners with you as donors to support causes close to your heart.
B. These can be a great legacy, passing the advisor role on to your children and grandchildren. Thus, promoting philanthropy in Meade County for generations to come!
C. There can be great tax-benefits to these. Contact your accountant to learn more!
