Had a blast with Cooking with Homework this last week! We made lasagna, fresh asparagus, garlic knots, and chocolate chip cookies from scratch! The kids practiced how to rotate MANY pans through our 50+ year old ovens. We are looking for two ovens to replace our very old in counter style stovetops. Some of the burners don't even work. However, the kids still made awesome food! They loved experimenting with different knot tying and sizes of the garlic knots! They also had a lasagna cook off and pan number 1 won!

Our Teen Advisory Board met today and then we had a work day. We got the first layer painted in the entrance and now just need the parts too high and touchups! The board also worked more on the storeroom and had some fun trying on some of the clothes :( we would love more Homecoming and Prom dresses for the store!

Some of our teens asked if they could spend their snow day working in the Teen Store Room. Our water heater had broken (its been replaced) and dumped all over the floor. So the teens and I decided we were ripping the carpet out and reorganizing. The carpet is now out and it looks a lot better We are needing to get some more clothing racks and shoe racks to finish organizing. We are even closer to being able to start using it! We also could use someone to haul the old carpet away if anyone is able!

Forgot to post the last two meets. We made chicken noodle soup and angel food dump bars. Then last week we made chili and cinnamon rolls! We are still looking for volunteers to help with cooking and the homework side. We have many kids asking for help with math especially!

Wednesday was Pie day! We made chicken pot pie and a ton of different pies, mostly from scratch! They made a baked chocolate pie, pudding pies, a peanut butter with oreo crust, pumpkin pie, and a mixed berry! They practiced making a roux, making pie crusts, that cornstarch thickens juices, and how to mix the different types of fillings! Even talked one teen into eating pot pie that hated it before! Homemade and fresh veggies make a big difference! Also enjoy their mustache pie :) as they learned you can use natural things like berry to dye food instead of artificial.
