Over-responsibility and anxiety can become tangled when caring deeply makes us feel responsible for every outcome. God gives us influence, but He never asks us to carry His part, another person’s part, and our own.

Daily Devotional from David A. Case: Caring Isn't the Problem

When anxiety tries to take control, we can start trying to manage outcomes, people, timing, conversations, and possibilities just to feel safe. This devotional explores how control can become an illusion of safety—and how trust grows as we do what is ours to do and release what belongs to God.

Sometimes our desire to help someone can quietly become a need for them to listen, change, or receive what we’re offering.

That need can create anxiety within us, and the person we’re trying to help may experience it as pressure. Healthy support leaves room for God to work in His way and timing.

We can care, encourage, speak truth, and offer life without taking responsibility for an outcome that belongs to God.

Sometimes anxiety doesn’t look like panic. Sometimes it looks like trying to manage outcomes, people, timing, conversations, and possibilities so we can finally feel safe.

Today’s devotional looks at how control can become an illusion of safety and how we can learn to do what is ours to do right here, right now, while trusting God with the rest.

We weren’t created to carry shame or the fear of falling short by ourselves.

Safe, life-giving relationships give us room to be known, loved, encouraged, and reminded that our worth doesn’t depend on perfect performance.

Let people see you. Let people love you.

We weren’t created to carry everything alone.

Life-giving friends love us, accept us, help us see the next step, and come alongside us as we carry the load. God can use those relationships to strengthen us and help healthy fruit grow in our lives.

Who has helped you keep moving forward?

Where do you feel the most pressure to measure up?

The places where we fear falling short are often connected to what we care about most. That pressure is not evidence that you have failed. Instead, it likely reveals something beautiful about how God has created you and His calling on your life.

We were not created to carry every burden or see every situation clearly on our own.

Healthy, godly friendships give us room to receive truth, encouragement, perspective, and strength. They remind us that accepting support is not weakness. Sometimes the people God places around us help us recognize what we could not see alone.

This Heart Change U teaching explores what makes a friendship life-giving and why shared strength matters.

Strength was never meant to be carried alone. Connection with healthy and godly people is at the heart of the solution to the Falling Short layer of the Anxiety Iceberg.

None of us sees the whole picture alone.

Our point of view helps us understand some things, but healthy people can often recognize what we cannot see from where we’re standing. That is one reason truth, connection, and trusted relationships matter so much.

We need people around us, and we need to be willing to hear from them.

ReUse It Center’s generosity toward The Omega Project extends far beyond this incredibly meaningful $3,500 gift.

Our men and women have the opportunity to volunteer there, but we often feel we receive even more than we give. The ReUse It Center’s team comes alongside our residents with genuine friendship, encouragement, and mentoring. They help create a place where our residents can serve, learn, build relationships, and know they are valued.

We are deeply grateful for this donation and for the people behind it. Thank you to the ReUse It Center, its dedicated volunteers, and every shopper whose support makes this generosity possible. Your partnership is making a difference in the lives of our men and women in ways that cannot be measured!
