Mental health is an essential part of being human. It shapes how we think, feel, connect with others, and navigate life’s challenges.
Yet, behind many mental health struggles are stories that remain unheard—experiences hidden by stigma, fear of judgment, or the feeling that no one will understand.
This World Mental Health Day, observed on October 10, let’s make space for real voices and lived experiences. Listening without judgment, acknowledging people’s struggles, and respecting their stories can help build a world where seeking support is met with understanding rather than stigma.
Because meaningful change begins when we listen, not just to respond, but to understand.

Have you ever noticed that sometimes, the people who seem okay on the outside are silently struggling on the inside? Sometimes, a person doesn't need you to fix their problems. They just need to know that someone cares enough to listen, understand, and stay beside them.
Here are a few ways you can support someone who’s going through a difficult time:

🔹 Listen without judging-
Sometimes, people don't need advice; they just need someone who will listen and try to understand.

🔹Validate their feelings-
Instead of saying, “You're overthinking” or “Others have it worse,” try saying, “I can understand why this is difficult for you.”

🔹 Offer support, not solutions-
Ask, “What can I do to support you right now?” Respect their needs instead of assuming what is best for them.

🔹Stay connected-
A simple text, a phone call, or checking in on them can remind them that they are not alone.

🔹 Give them space to open up-
Let them share at their own pace. Create a safe space where they feel comfortable expressing their emotions without fear of judgment.

🔹Encourage professional help when needed-
If they are struggling to cope, gently encourage them to seek support from a mental health professional.

You can support someone without having to solve everything for them. You don't have to have the perfect words to make a difference. Sometimes, your presence, patience, and willingness to listen can mean more than you realize. You may not be able to take away someone's pain, but you can make sure they don't have to face it feeling alone.

When was the last time you checked in with yourself?

We check our phones, reply to messages, meet deadlines, and ask others how they’re doing. But in the middle of all this, we often forget to ask ourselves one simple question: “How am I really doing?”

A daily check-in doesn't have to be complicated. Just take 5 minutes for yourself and ask:

➡️ How am I feeling today?
Try to name your emotions without judging them. It's okay to feel happy, sad, anxious, overwhelmed, or even confused.

➡️What is taking up most of my mental space?
Notice what's been on your mind lately. Is something worrying you, or is there something you're looking forward to?

➡️What does my body need right now?
Am I tired, hungry, thirsty, or in need of some rest?

➡️ What do I need emotionally?
Do I need some quiet time, a meaningful conversation, reassurance, or simply a break?

➡️What's one small thing I can do for myself today?
It could be taking a short walk, listening to your favourite song, talking to someone you trust, or allowing yourself to rest without feeling guilty.

A self-check-in isn't about fixing everything or forcing yourself to feel better. It's about noticing what you're experiencing and responding to yourself with kindness. You just need to give yourself the same care that you so often offer to others.

Pause. Breathe. Check in with yourself. You matter too. If you could describe how you're feeling right now in just one word, what would it be? You can write down in the comment section bellow⤵️

When Should You Consider Talking to a Mental Health Professional?

Mental health struggles do not always look the same, and many people continue with their daily routines while quietly dealing with emotional difficulties.

Persistent sadness or anxiety, frequent irritability, overwhelming stress, difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite, problems concentrating, withdrawing from friends and family, or losing interest in activities can be signs that additional support may be helpful.

When these experiences continue for an extended period or begin affecting relationships, studies, work, or everyday functioning, speaking with a mental health professional can provide an opportunity to understand what is happening and explore appropriate support.

World Mental Health Day | October 10

Many of us have smiled through exhausting days, said "I'm fine" when we weren't, and carried a heaviness we couldn't explain.

This year's theme, "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change," reminds us that every person's story matters, and that change begins when those stories are truly heard. Mental health is not a luxury or a sign of weakness. It shapes how we think, sleep, work, love, and live, and like physical health, it needs attention, understanding, and sometimes professional support. Anxiety, depression, and stress are common and treatable, and no one should face them in silence. Staying unwell for weeks, losing interest in things you once loved, feeling constantly overwhelmed, or withdrawing from people are signs worth taking seriously.

When we listen without judging, share our experiences with courage, and check in on someone who has gone quiet, our real voices create real change. If you are struggling, please take that brave first step and reach out to a trusted person or a mental health professional. You are not alone, and you are not too much. 🤍

Talking about mental health can be difficult. People may worry about being judged, misunderstood, or not knowing exactly how to explain what they are experiencing.

A conversation does not have to begin with a long explanation. Simple statements such as “I haven’t been feeling like myself lately,” “I’ve been feeling overwhelmed,” or “I think I need some support” can be enough to open the door.

Choosing someone you trust and finding a comfortable, private moment can make the conversation easier. For concerns that are difficult to discuss with friends or family, a mental health professional can also provide a supportive and confidential space to talk.

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Many misconceptions still surround it. Let’s separate the myths from the facts. Some of the biggest misconceptions about mental health are hidden in everyday phrases we hear all the time:

“Just be strong.”
“It’s all in your head.”
“You don’t look depressed.”
“Therapy is only for ‘crazy’ people.”

But what if these beliefs are doing more harm than we realize? Let’s stop assuming, start understanding, and separate MYTH from FACT.

❌ Myth: “People with mental health problems are weak.”
✅ Fact: Mental health difficulties can affect anyone. Seeking help is a sign of courage, not weakness.

❌ Myth: “Mental illness is just a phase. You can get over it yourself.”
✅ Fact: Some mental health conditions require professional support, just like physical illnesses may require treatment.

❌ Myth: “Talking about mental health makes things worse.”
✅ Fact: A safe and supportive conversation can help someone feel heard, understood and less alone.

❌ Myth: “Therapy is only for people with severe mental illness.”
✅ Fact: People seek counselling for many reasons—including stress, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions and personal growth.

❌ Myth: “You can always tell when someone is struggling.”
✅ Fact: Not everyone shows their struggles outwardly. Someone may look perfectly fine while experiencing significant emotional distress.

Mental health needs understanding, not judgment. Sometimes, changing one belief can change the way we treat someone who is struggling.

🔹 Substance Use Disorder

Medical assessment → Withdrawal management → Psychotherapy/behavioral intervention → প্রয়োজনে medication → Family & social support

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing এবং অন্যান্য evidence-based behavioral approaches চিকিৎসার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ হতে পারে।

🌱 Stimulus fading:

🌱 Professional support:
