Killeen Independent School District families, students, staff, and community members: your voice matters!

As a member of Killeen ISD’s School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), STARRY is helping share KISD’s Wellness Policy Assessment with our community.

The feedback gathered through this assessment will help inform the district’s work around school nutrition, physical education, and student wellness.

If you’re part of the KISD community, we encourage you to take a few minutes to share your perspective:

Sometimes the first check-in opens the door. The next one reminds someone you meant it.

Connection isn’t a one-time conversation. It’s remembering to send another text. Asking again. Making the invitation. Following up on the thing someone trusted you enough to share.

Those small moments can remind the people in our lives that they are seen, valued, and worth showing up for.

As Su***de Prevention Month comes to a close, let’s carry this with us: check in, then check in again.

And when someone needs more support than you can provide alone, connection can also mean helping them find it. STARRY offers no-cost counseling and family support services for children, youth, and families. Visit STARRY.org to connect with our team.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health or su***de crisis, call or text **988** to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. If there is immediate danger, call **911**.

Wichita Falls, help us make the connection.

School counselors, teachers, and other school staff are often among the first to recognize when a child or family could use a little extra support. We want to make sure they know STARRY is here.

STARRY provides free counseling and family support for youth ages 6–17 and their families, with services available in person and virtually.

If you're a parent, educator, counselor, administrator, or simply someone connected to a school in the Wichita Falls area, you can help.

Share this post with your school. Tag an educator or counselor who should know about STARRY. Or send it to someone who works with students and families.

The more connections we build with our local schools, the easier it becomes for families to find support when they need it.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️

There can be joy in the middle of hard things.

A cancer diagnosis can bring uncertainty, disruption, and days no child or family would choose. And alongside those realities, there can still be laughter. Play. Friendship. Celebration. Moments that feel wonderfully ordinary.

Those moments don't erase what is hard. They simply remind us that joy belongs there, too.

This month, we honor children facing cancer and everyone helping create space for moments of childhood along the way.

If your family is navigating a hard season, you don't have to navigate it alone. STARRY is here to walk alongside you.

Last year, the STARRY team rolled up our sleeves for United Way of Central Texas’ Day of Caring, and we mean that pretty literally. 💪

STARRY partnered with Central Texas Housing Consortium to serve Young Daughters Funeral Home and Bereavement Center. Together, volunteers repaired gutters, refreshed garden beds, broke up old concrete pavement, and helped prepare the property for a new parking lot.

This year, we’re doing it again.

STARRY and Central Texas Housing Consortium are teaming up again for United Way of Central Texas’ Day of Caring, ready to spend the day serving wherever we’re needed.

The fun part? We don’t know where we’re going yet. Our project will be revealed on Day of Caring.

What we do know is that we’ll be ready to show up, get to work, and serve alongside our community partners.

Stay tuned. We’ll take you along with us!

Recovery is deeply personal, but no one moves through life's challenges entirely alone.

Strong relationships, healthy communication, connection to resources, and supportive communities can help create an environment where individuals and families can move toward greater wellbeing.

That's part of why STARRY believes in supporting families before challenges become crises.

Through accessible, at-no-cost services, we partner with individuals and families to strengthen relationships, navigate challenges, build skills, and support wellbeing.

This Recovery Month, we're reminded that supporting recovery can also mean strengthening the people and relationships surrounding it.

Seeing the unseen. Choosing hope.

Last week, members of the STARRY team joined United Way of Central Texas for its 2026 Awards of Excellence Breakfast, an inspirational morning celebrating the people and partnerships making a difference across Central Texas.

One story especially stayed with us.

A single father shared that he carries "two faces": the professional face the world sees and the one at home working hard to make ends meet. His story reflected the reality of ALICE households, those who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. They are working, caring for their families, and doing everything they can, while facing challenges the people around them may never see.

It was a powerful reminder that we rarely know everything another person is carrying.

At STARRY, our staff have the privilege of walking alongside families through some of those unseen stories every day. They listen, help families recognize their strengths, connect them with resources and support, and remind them they don't have to navigate difficult seasons alone.

And that work is made stronger through partnership.

We are incredibly grateful to United Way of Central Texas, President/CEO Veshell Greene, the UWCT Board of Directors, and the philanthropic partners who help make this work possible. UWCT has been a longtime partner of STARRY and continues to support our Family and Youth Success (FAYS) work with children, youth, and families in Bell County.

We also congratulate this year's Awards of Excellence honorees, including Johnson Brothers Ford, whose generosity has directly supported STARRY's Strengthening Families Program.

As the morning came to a close, we were left with another powerful reminder: we can choose hope.

We can slow down. We can listen. We can see one another. And together, we can make sure more people feel supported and less alone.

If you or someone you know could use support, STARRY is here. Our services are available at no cost, and our team can help you explore whether STARRY's services are right for you or your family. Learn more at STARRY.org or call 512-388-8290.

Thank you, Veshell and the entire United Way of Central Texas community, for an inspiring morning and for the many ways you bring people together to strengthen Central Texas families.

Together, we're lighting the way to wellbeing.

Grandparents can be storytellers, encouragers, caregivers, safe places, advocates, and sometimes, the people doing the day-to-day work of raising a child.

On Grandparents Day, we're celebrating the grandparents and grandparent figures who show up for children and families in so many different ways.

And for grandparents raising or caring for children, we want you to know:

STARRY is here for you, too.

STARRY's Family and Youth Services are free and available to families in many forms. Whether your family could use counseling, parenting and family support, or help connecting with resources, you don't have to navigate every challenge on your own.

Because there isn't just one way to be a family, and support shouldn't depend on what yours looks like.

Happy Grandparents Day to the grandparents and grandparent figures helping children feel loved, supported, and connected.
