Good food, good friends, and finally some weather made for cooking outside!

Our Ranchers recently enjoyed an al fresco cooking class thanks to H-E-B, and the cooler weather.

Together, they made Maddy’s Cabbage Salad, packed with fresh cabbage, dates, pecans, shallots, Parmesan, and a simple lemon and olive oil dressing.

Cooking classes like this are about so much more than what ends up on the plate.

They’re an opportunity to learn new skills, try something new, work together, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.

Thank you, H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust, for sponsoring the cooking program for our Ranchers and investing in opportunities for them to learn and grow!

It may look like an empty field right now, but just wait. 

Near the Day Program quad on our new campus, this space will one day be home to three greenhouses filled with herbs, vegetables, and flowers grown by our Ranchers.

From planting and tending to harvesting, Ranchers will have opportunities to work through the growing process while learning about horticulture and developing new skills along the way.

And what they grow can reach far beyond the greenhouse. The vision is for herbs, vegetables, and flowers to be used within the Cornerstone community, shared with others in our surrounding community, and potentially sold to help support the program.

Right now, you can see the irrigation lines going in.

50 million people around the world live with cerebral palsy. That means 50 million different experiences, priorities, gifts, and ideas about what needs to change.

This World Cerebral Palsy Day, the question is simple:
What’s your change for cerebral palsy?

At Cornerstone Ranch, we believe change looks like creating communities where adults with disabilities are known, valued, included, and given opportunities to grow in independence, build meaningful friendships, share their gifts, and live abundant lives.

Faith has always been at the heart of life at Cornerstone Ranch, and the new campus will include a beautiful space created with that foundation in mind.

The Chapel will stand at the heart of our new community as a place where Ranchers, staff, families, and friends can come together.

Meet Christine Ortega, Cornerstone Ranch’s Volunteer Manager!

Christine joined the Cornerstone team earlier this summer, bringing years of experience leading volunteer outreach and engagement for faith-based and nonprofit organizations.

“I believe volunteers are the heart of every thriving nonprofit community, and that meaningful service transforms both those being served and those who serve.”

At Cornerstone, Christine helps people find meaningful ways to use their own gifts and talents to serve our Ranchers. She welcomes volunteers, coordinates schedules and training, connects with community groups, and jumps in wherever she’s needed.

But one of the things Christine has discovered since coming to the Ranch is just how much our Ranchers give in return.

“People may not realize how much our Ranchers have to give to us. They teach us, encourage us, make us laugh, and remind us that we matter and that there is so much to celebrate in each of us.”

That connection started almost immediately.

The first time Christine joined our Day Program, she was welcomed with hugs, conversations, and plenty of questions about herself and her family. Before she left, one Rancher handed her a drawing that read, “We love ya Christine.”

Welcome to the front porch of our new community!

The Welcome Center will be the first stop for guests arriving at Cornerstone Ranch. Visitors will check in here before entering through the security gates, making it the gateway to everything happening across our new campus.

But it will be much more than a check-in point.

Inside, guests will be able to shop artwork and creations made by our Ranchers, learn more about the Cornerstone community, and gather for volunteer training. The building will also house our administrative offices and board room.

We love thinking about this space as our community’s front porch, a place to welcome people in, introduce them to our Ranchers, and invite them to become part of the Cornerstone Ranch community.

We can’t wait to welcome you here!

Our Ranchers love pickleball, and you can often find them at Chicken N Pickle each week. So it was especially fun to welcome the Chicken N Pickle crew from Allen to the Ranch!

Once a year, Chicken N Pickle closes all of its locations so team members can head out into their communities and spend the day serving locally. We were honored that the Allen crew chose to spend part of that day serving alongside our Ranchers.

Thank you, Chicken N Pickle - Allen for showing up for our community and making the day so special!
