McKinney Black History Month

09/11/2026

Today marks 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As we pause to reflect, we also remember the diverse tapestry of heroes who stepped up that day—including the brave first responders, military service members, and ordinary citizens who risked everything to save others. Their courage is a permanent part of our shared history. 25 years later, we honor all the lives lost and the families left behind.

Happy Juneteenth, McKinney!

Today we honor a pivotal moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, bringing long-awaited news of freedom to enslaved African Americans. This came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and marked the true end of slavery in the United States.

Today, we celebrate the resilience, culture, and enduring contributions of the Black community. It is a day to reflect, educate ourselves, and recommit to the ongoing journey toward true equality and unity. From Historic Downtown McKinney to neighborhoods across the city, we remember our roots and celebrate our strength together. ❤️🖤💚

❤️💛💚

The TMFBC family says, “Happy Juneteenth Day.” The following divine hymn lyrics epitomizes Juneteenth: We’ve come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord. Trusting in His Holy Word. He’s never failed us yet. Oh, Oh - Oh - can’t turn around…we’ve come this far by faith. Thank you “Dr. Opal Lee” for your never give up spirit in leading us to this federal holiday.
