💙 HELP BRING CORY HOME 💙
Many of you know Cory as a dedicated husband, father, friend, firefighter, and public servant. Cory proudly serves as a firefighter with the Circleville-North Huntingdon Fire Department and has spent years serving his community through his work with the borough. He has always been the one answering the call when others needed help. Now, he needs us.
Last year, Cory began battling a series of severe infections. What started as stomach infections led to multiple hospitalizations, surgeries, and a serious infection in his knee. After months of recovery, he returned to work and was living life again with his wife and daughters.
Then everything changed.
Earlier this year, Cory began experiencing knee pain, dizziness, and loss of appetite. Doctors eventually discovered that a bacterial infection had entered his bloodstream and traveled to his brain, causing a rare bilateral thalamic stroke.
The thalamus is the part of the brain responsible for alertness, consciousness, and relaying information throughout the body. Today, Cory is considered minimally conscious. While he recognizes his wife and daughters and has moments of awareness, he spends much of his time fighting to regain the abilities many of us take for granted.
Cory is currently receiving specialized rehabilitation in Columbus, one of the few programs available for patients with Disorders of Consciousness. His family remains hopeful that continued therapy will help him make meaningful progress.
As you can imagine, the financial burden has been overwhelming. In addition to ongoing medical and travel expenses, Cory will require a wheelchair-accessible van to safely return home when the time comes.
Many of you also know Natalie from Rain Athletics’ Cloudy team. We are hoping the entire Rain family, along with our surrounding communities, will come together to support this incredible family during their time of need.
