We have moved!

WHERE: 1050 Lincoln Way
McKeesport, PA 15132

WHY: “This space is the first space that is not a shared space which allowed us to make it uniquely our own,” said Rochelle Jackson, founder and director of BWPA and BWPC.

“We now have a place I feel we can call home. It feels good to be able to welcome the community here for meetings, workshops or even just a quick visit. It speaks to our growth and the solid foundation that we have established in the Greater Pittsburgh region,” she added.

Thank you for supporting the important work of the Black Women’s Policy Center (BWPC).

Moving forward, you can find us on the Black Women's Policy Agenda page. We will continue to move the dial and change the conditions so that all Black women and girls aren’t just surviving but are thriving. We will fight to center policy and advocate in a way that mobilizes Black women to build power while uplifting one another.

What is the Black Women’s Policy Agenda?

Founded by Black women for Black women, the BWPA is a collective group of Black women from the non-profit world and the community at large joining forces to address the complex challenges Black women and girls across all identities face in the Pittsburgh region and is a project of the BWPC.

*We will no longer provide updates on this page. Please join us at BWPA for all updates moving forward.*

The Black Women’s Policy Center is for Black Women by Black Women. We center Black women in policy.

Most public policy does not center Black women, data and the experience of Black women in Pittsburgh is evidence of that. It has been and is still very clear that Pittsburgh is not the 2nd most livable city for all - especially for Black women. In fact, Pittsburgh has failed Black women and girls for decades. The Black woman is the backbone for the Black family, with 81% of Black households being led by Black women. Black women are the sole or primary breadwinners in 84% of Black households. Yet Pittsburgh is the worst city for Black women in comparison to 89 other cities. What plans does Pittsburgh's next Mayor have to ensure that Black women and their families not only survive, but THRIVE? The BWPA is partnering with Gwen's Girls and Catapult Greater Pittsburgh to host a Mayoral Candidates Forum Centering Black Women. Join us by registering at http://bit.ly/BWPAForum.

As many as 1 in 5 women experience perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMADs). Often unnoticed and untreated, it can result in tragic and long-term consequences for mom and baby. Maternal Mental Health Awareness Day is about recognizing the seriousness of depression, and mental health during and after pregnancy. Our goal is to improve the quality of care for women experiencing all types of PMADs. Let's reduce the stigma of maternal mental illness!
