Here is the story of how the Lemonade Brigade started. During their last week of summer, Aubrey, Baylon and Morgan had a sleepover at Aubrey's house. They decided they wanted to have a lemonade stand. After some discussing, they also decided they would give some of the proceeds to a good cause. Then, the more they thought about it, the more they thought ALL of the proceeds would be nicer. They sea
rched a little on Facebook and came up with a little boy, a nephew of one of our cousins, who has cancer. Over the next six days, with the help of a really good location in McHenry, social media - especially the 'You Know You're From McHenry if' page on Facebook, word of mouth and some adorable signs, these girls, along with some helpers, managed to raise over $800.00 for little Rowan. "This is fantastic" they thought, "We want to continue doing this" So, fast forward a couple months, and some lazy thoughts on how to start it, figuring out a name that couldn't easily be forgotten, who they could help, how they would come across great causes, etc, the awful shooting in Holiday Hills happened. That's when they decided to put this into full gear. Over the next few days, they reached out to the families involved, which in turn caused a couple local media outlets to hear about it and help get the word out. They were able to raise over $5,000.00 for the families affected. They have made wonderful friendships, met amazing people and businesses, and have developed a wonderful sense of community. Thank you to everyone who has supported them along the way and we sincerely hope they will be able to continue to work with this community in helping those in need.
