MILITARY MOMS | The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is squeezing some expectant mothers in the Kaiserslautern Military Community and beyond out of the labor and delivery ward at the largest Defense Department hospital overseas.

Social media forums abounded with requests for advice stemming from a screenshot of a memo saying that Landstuhl Regional Medical Center’s services for labor and delivery were suspended until further notice.

October is ADHD Awareness Month.

Did you know that children in military families face unique challenges when managing ADHD?

🔍 By the numbers:
According to a 2022 study by the CDC and the data pulled from the Military Health System, roughly 6.3% of military connected children had been diagnosed with ADHD between 2017-2022 (the latest available data).

🧩 What makes military life distinct?
-Frequent relocations can disrupt access to consistent medical care, specialists, and school services.
-Changes in school systems mean re-evaluations, different IEP/504 processes, and lost institutional memory.
-Stability, structure, and routine are often harder to maintain during moves

✅ What helps:
-Advance planning with new schools and medical providers
-Keeping and sharing documentation (diagnostic reports, treatment plans, accommodations)
-Connecting early with local EFMP or special education liaisons

Together, we can raise awareness and support our military children with ADHD.

Airmen,

If there is a lapse in appropriations, the resources below are available to help you and your families.

• Financial assistance: Several financial institutions, along with the Air Force Aid Society, are offering low or no-interest loans and other forms of support.
• Support services, including Military OneSource, Spouse Education and Career Opportunities, and MFLC contracts, will remain operational.
While some of the services below will be impacted, others will be unaffected.
• Childcare services (CDC, Before/After Care, Youth Centers) could face disruptions. Your local installation will provide further details.
• DoDEA schools will continue normal operations, though after-school programs and sports may be on hold.
• AAFES, to include BXs, Express convenience stores and gas stations, food courts, malls, theaters, etc. will remain open without interruption.

There will likely be other challenges and circumstances that arise, so please stay in close contact with your chain of command, especially if you’re experiencing any difficulties. Your leadership can only help if they’re aware of your situation.
