We chose to homeschool almost 11 years ago when we didnāt feel peace about enrolling our oldest in private or public school as he started kindergarten.
We had never considered homeschool until the wrestling with why we had such lack of peace on our next step in parenting came fast and furious.
Once we understood where God was leading us we jumped all the way into obedience and let the Lord guide us, as we still do today.
We chose to homeschool out of obedience and the wrestling with what we saw our lives could look like together day in and day out if we chose homeschool. The hours we would gain with our children that if given away we could never get back was a major deciding factor. We chose the path that would let us choose what influence our kids would have from an early age. We chose the path that would require more work from us on the day in and day out but the return on our investment would undoubtedly point to how good God is.
We still continue to homeschool because it brings us freedom in many areas of life. It is true that with the help of the Holy Spirit and what Philippians 4:8 says that āwhatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableāif anything is excellent or praiseworthyāthink about such thingsā rings true for our homeschool. God is at the center of all the subjects our kids learn and this fuels our passion and puts into right perspective our purpose in this journey.
Homeschooling has given us the blessings of character building, heart tending, learning on the go, and sleeping in when we need it. The opportunities to cultivate joy, patience, and kindness are endless. It has given us more than we could count opportunities to serve selflessly, excercise self-control, and to set our fleshly desires aside to pursue Jesus. Homeschooling is just living life with a specific purpose, while accomplishing goals to raise our young men and women to know and serve the Lord while equipping them with the tools to be successful in whatever the Lord asks of them.
