UPDATE: Corona Virus (COVID-19)
Schools Open Until Further Notice
Dear McFarland students, families, and the entire community,
As we are sure you are all aware, we find ourselves in a trying time as a country, state and community. The District has made a commitment to communication and we will continue to provide updates as they become available.
There are unprecedented moves being made around the country and the situation remains fluid. As of this posting, there are still no confirmed COVID-19 cases in McFarland or Kern County. At this time the 47 Districts around the County will remain open until further directions are received from the Governor and/or public health officials.
If the circumstances surrounding this issue change, the District is prepared and ready to respond with contingencies already in place. But again, that time has not come and schools remain open.
The safety of students and staff is always our top concern. In many cases, students coming to school remains the safest option. Some families don’t have the option to stay home from work and children may be left without a caretaker with school cancellations. In addition, over 5,000 meals are served to students every day at our schools—many of which will not be available to students if they stay home.
As previously mentioned, the District is prepared to re-evaluate and take action if any confirmed cases materialize in Kern County.
If you have a child that is ill or not feeling well, please keep them home from school and it is important to continue to wash hands and practice good hygiene.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we continue to work through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
S.A. Resendez
Superintendent
McFarland Unified School District
