🌱 A new chapter is taking root in Western North Carolina!

Join ROOTS Community Land Trust and Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders for the Heartwood Village Groundbreaking Ceremony on Tuesday, October 27, as we celebrate the beginning of a neighborhood of 50 permanently affordable homes for local families, including those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

This is an important step toward creating lasting housing opportunities and helping families put down roots in a place they can call home. 🏡

A home is more than shelter.

It’s safety. Stability. A place to begin again.

After a disaster, families face damaged homes, unexpected expenses, and an uncertain road ahead. For households already struggling financially, the cost of recovery can feel completely overwhelming.

That’s why Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders exists.

We come alongside families who need help repairing or rebuilding their homes — with volunteers giving their time and donors providing the resources to make it possible.

Jesus taught us to love our neighbors. This is how we live that out.

Every person deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to start over. Your generosity helps make that possible.

And if you can’t give right now — please share this post. You might reach someone who can.

Most people see the finished home.

They don’t see what happens before the first nail is driven.

Here’s what a typical FCDR project actually looks like behind the scenes:
📋 A family is referred to us — usually uninsured, low-income, and with nowhere else to turn after a disaster.
🔍 Our team assesses the damage and determines what’s needed — sometimes it’s a roof, sometimes it’s an entire rebuild from the foundation up.
📐 A site plan is drawn up, materials are sourced, and volunteer crews are scheduled.
🔨 Teams arrive — from churches, civic groups, and individuals across the country — and the real work begins.
🏠 Weeks or months later, a family walks through a front door that’s finally safe again.

It’s not fast. It’s not simple. But every single step is worth it.

What part of this process surprises you most? Tell us in the comments.

Resilience starts at home. 🏡

A safe home gives a family somewhere to turn when life gets difficult. But when disaster damages or destroys that home, everything can change.

On this International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we're reminded that preparing for disasters matters, and so does helping families recover when the unexpected happens.

At Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders, we believe every family deserves a safe, decent place to call home. Through the hands of volunteers, the generosity of donors, and the support of our partners, families can begin rebuilding after disaster.

As Christians, we're called to love our neighbors in practical ways. Sometimes that means showing up with a hammer. Sometimes it means giving so the materials are there when they're needed. And sometimes it means reminding a family that they haven't been forgotten.

🙏 How can you help build resilience for a family recovering from disaster?

Give, volunteer, pray, or share our mission.

Today is World Homeless Day — and that verse is why we do what we do.

When disaster takes away your home, you can suddenly find yourself without a safe place to live. Not because of poor choices. Not because of failure. Because a storm came and took everything in a matter of hours.

At Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders, we believe God calls us to come alongside those families — helping them return to their homes and find hope again.

Because a home is more than a roof over your head. It's safety. Dignity. Family. Belonging.

Your gift today helps a family take another step toward home.

Mrs. Carita has lived in Asheville, NC her whole life (Asheville High Cougar class of 1979!) We're so glad we got to serve Carita, who got a foot of water in her house during Hurricane Helene. She is ever thankful for the volunteers who have been hard at work!

Two years ago, Hurricane Helene swept through Western North Carolina in a matter of hours.

Families lost everything.

Today, some of those families are still waiting.

Not because we forgot them. Not because the need went away. But because rebuilding takes time, materials, and resources that have to be replenished every week.

FCDR is currently rebuilding homes in Western North Carolina, and our work continues because families are still counting on us.

Right now, our Rapid Response Fund is $50,000 short of its $100,000 goal.

Your gift helps provide the materials and resources needed to keep rebuilding.

$25 can help provide structural nails.
$100 can help provide subflooring.
$500 can help frame a wall.
$1,000 can help provide roofing materials for a family.

Two years is too long to wait for a safe place to call home.

Will you help us continue this work?

A home is more than four walls. 🏡

It’s where a family gathers around the table.
Where children feel safe.
Where memories are made.
Where there is room to rest, heal, pray, and begin again.

Today is World Habitat Day, a reminder of the importance of safe, adequate housing for all.

At Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders, we’ve seen what happens when disaster takes that place away.

And we’ve seen what happens when people come together to rebuild it.

Volunteers give their time. Donors provide the resources. Churches and communities come alongside families. And through it all, we trust God to guide the work.

Because every family deserves a safe, decent place to call home.

Your gift can help another family take a step toward that place.

Looking back at how far we’ve come—and the families we brought home. 🏡✨

Earlier this year, families like Catalina, disabled veteran Chuck & Charlene, and a young family of three were still weathering the aftermath of Hurricane Helene living in RVs and cramped campers.

Because our supporters stepped up, our volunteers and partners (like Weaverland, Purple Heart Homes, and Storm Aid) turned empty lots and damaged structures into brand new foundations.

That’s the life-changing impact of your support.

As we continue our recovery work across Western North Carolina, we rely on generous gifts to keep materials moving and hammers swinging.
