What began as a joyful day quickly turned into an emergency.
On May 16, 2026, a family gathered in the West Atrium of the Cobb County Court Complex to celebrate a wedding. Moments before the ceremony, a young girl began choking.
Recognizing the signs of distress, Deputy Walk immediately sprang into action. Using his training and quick thinking, he was able to dislodge the obstruction and help the child begin breathing again.
Because of his swift response, a family was able to continue celebrating what should have been one of the happiest days of their lives.
Please join us in recognizing Deputy Walk for his professionalism, courage, and commitment to serving others when they need it most.

Agents from our Regional Investigative Office in Cleveland joined Georgia State Patrol Troopers and Georgia DNR Game Wardens at the Dawson County Junior Deputy Camp.
During the camp, agents shared about the role and responsibilities of a GBI Special Agent, giving junior deputies a firsthand look at careers in law enforcement and criminal investigations.

K-9 Deputy Aza is trained in narcotics detection and is a partner to Sgt. Rodrick Smathers. K-9 Aza is also a fur sibling to now-retired K-9 Deputy Stormi. 🐾🚔

After 17 years of service to , Command Sgt. Gene House is retiring. 💙🚨
From Patrol and Motor Squad to Command Sergeant in Property & Evidence, Gene built a reputation for hard work and simply getting the job done. Whether he was working in Motors, leading from the front, or helping grow the River City Motorcycle Rodeo benefiting Special Olympics Georgia, he always found ways to make a difference (usually with a few well-timed jokes along the way).
Gene isn’t one for a lot of fanfare, so we’ll keep it simple: thank you for your years of service, your leadership, your commitment to this department and community, and simply being you, Gene!
We’ll miss seeing him around headquarters, especially when cake or banana pudding is involved.
Congratulations on your retirement, Gene. You’ve earned it.
