For the past three years, we have been actively advocating to transform vision care for children, adults, and seniors across Georgia. During meetings with state legislators, we share research, discuss challenges and solutions, and emphasize the importance of our partnership with Lions and local Lion Clubs throughout the state. Our statewide tele-optometry program has been a game changer, allowing us to reach individuals where they live and expand access to quality vision care in both rural and urban communities.
WE INVITE YOU: attend one of our state-of-the-art tele-optometry clinics in or near your hometown or District and see firsthand how this innovative program works.
During your visit, you will:
Observe a comprehensive eye examination conducted remotely by a Georgia-licensed optometrist.
Meet local clinic staff who deliver services in your community.
Meet patients from your district who are receiving vision care through the program.

OUR MISSION IN ACTION: Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is transforming vision care across Georgia by ensuring that individuals and families who lack access to quality eye care receive the services they need. For more than four years, our tele-optometry program partners with licensed clinics and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) throughout Georgia. Today, the program operates in 48 locations across both rural and urban communities.
PRESENTLY: Statutory limitations in current Georgia law states the delivery of tele-optometry services can only be performed in a licensed clinic or a Federally Qualified Health Center thus limiting the locations which tele-optometry clinics can be held.

WHY THIS MATTERS: Preventing vision impairment and blindness provides significant social and economic benefits by helping people remain independent, stay in the workforce, and reduce healthcare burden.
Productivity and Employment: Individuals with severe vision impairment or blindness are approximately 30% less likely to be employed. Providing access to vision correction and treatment for conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma improves employment opportunities, productivity, and quality of life.
Economic Impact: Studies show that investments in eye health can generate extraordinary returns, delivering substantial economic benefits through improved workforce participation and reduced disability.
Healthcare Cost Savings: Untreated vision loss costs the United States billions of dollars annually in direct medical expenses, long-term care services, and indirect costs such as informal caregiving and lost productivity.
