Animal Selection/Nutrition got to experience farm to table this week. Our class got 5 meat chickens from our middle school. They have tracked weights and rate of gain for the chickens for 4 weeks. And then this week we processed 2 birds and used the breast meat to make homemade chicken nuggets. The kids researched their own breading recipe and prepared the chicken for frying.

NMS SCCTC FFA has more white flowering dogwood trees to share for anyone who has a picture or video of removing an invasive Bradford pear tree from your landscape. One invasive Bradford pear tree removed= 3 white flowering dogwood in its place!

Our grant is coming to a close but we are opening this opportunity up to anyone who resides in Pike, Scioto, Greenup KY, Jackson, or Adams counties.

If you are interested please send an email to [email protected] and FFA members will make arrangements for you to pick up your trees.

Thank you!

Members worked together to assemble 30 birthday cake kits to give back to families in our community at the Northwest Local School District Food Pantry.

This opportunity was made possible through a Day of Service grant awarded from the National FFA Organization.

Today our group hosted Northwest Elementary at our Annual Northwest Ag Day. The weather was absolutely perfect and the kids did an amazing job showing their animals and tractors.

Thank you to all of our kids that brought tractors. Our adults that helped drive a few, Marvin Williams and Larry McChesney and also thank you Russell Rapp for bringing a tractor and planter for the kids to experience.

For animals we had pigs, a calf, goats, rabbit, chicken, duck, turkey, ferret, turtles, an amazing Black Lab named Zeke and a beautiful Black Maine C**n kitty.

Then OSU Extension Jo Williams and Natalie Bryant presented to the students about seed germination.

Thank you to all my students that were group leaders and Lora Alexander and Crystal Carpenter for getting the food prepared for our lunch.

So all in all we have seen almost 1000 kids in the past 2 days. I hope we have been able to give them a very small glimpse of Agriculture and everything it has to offer.

NHS FFA had an amazing day at the Scioto Farm Bureau Ag Adventure Day. Our group presented All about Milk. Students researched Dairy facts and educated 4th graders about where milk comes from and how butter is made.

Then students worked to make butter and learned about the process cream goes through to become butter. Then the kids got to try their butter and milk our wooden cow Daisy.

NMS FFA members took the lead in teaching elementary school students from all over Scioto County about the importance of soil science and soil horizons at the annual Scioto County Ag Day sponsored by Farm Bureau!
Our students look forward to this event every year.

Members explained how soil forms and how it grows the food that we eat, along with demonstrating how to create an edible soil profile, which may have been the best part!
Thank you to our chapter members who stepped up to speak and lead the presentation, as well as working hard to build over 400 cups of yummy edible soil.

Our members even joined in to help with other groups and presentations that needed some extra helping hands!

Watching their confidence grow as they spoke to each group of students and leading and teaching others is why these kinds of opportunities matter. I’m so proud with how they represented our chapter and demonstrating leadership skills in action.

Day 1 & 2 of State FFA Convention is in the books. We traveled to Columbus got in our hotel and had an amazing meal from Chile Verde!! Thanks to Carol Fitzpatrick for picking up our food. Thursday had us traveling early to get to the Golden Owl announcement and to the 1st session. We heard an inspiring message from Brad Hurtig. We then traveled to the Ohio Department of Agriculture for an excellent tour. Kids were able to see firsthand how our state works hard to keep the number 1 industry safe. Then it was off to the hotel to get changed and hit Scene 75 for fun and food. FYI our kids were complemented by employees about their behaviour and how courteous they were. Then we went back to the hotel for and played Goose Chase. Enjoy some completed missions.
