Humane Society of McCormick County

Humane Society of McCormick County No-kill rescue for homeless cats and dogs in McCormick County. Adopt into loving homes. All-volunteer We offer low-cost spay to any cat or dog in the County.

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue. We pick up homeless cats and dogs and find them loving homes. We are 100% funded by donations, grants and money raised through fundraising activities. All money raised goes to helping animals because we are all volunteers. The county does not have a county-run shelter. We care for the dogs and cats that would otherwise have no other place to go.

Looking for a loyal friend to greet you at the door after a long day? Meet Nesha! 🐾

This sweet kitten wears a classic black-and-white tuxedo coat and has an even more beautiful personality. Nesha is the ultimate companion who will literally run to greet you when you come home. If you are looking for a friend to entertain you with her playful antics and snuggle beside you on the couch at night while you watch TV or read a book, she is your perfect match.

Born in May 2026, Nesha is still a young kitten who loves chasing the red laser dot and playing with wand toys as well as curling up for cozy naps in a sunny spot. She does have feline herpes, but that just means she needs a calm, indoor-only lifestyle where she can stay relaxed and healthy. It is harmless to humans and dogs, and cats with it live long, happy lives!

Nesha is currently available through our Foster-to-Adopt program while her final medical checks are wrapped up. If you are ready to bring endless purrs and warmth into your home, email us at [email protected] to meet Nesha!

🐾 HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR MILITARY HEROES! 🐾

Our hearts (and paws) are absolutely bursting with gratitude today! We had an incredible group of 15 NCOA members from Fort Gordon volunteer with us.

These amazing service members tackled a major project for us, moving a big load of mulch into our dog play yards so our pups have a safe place to run. They also deep-cleaned one of our dog kennels, helped clean up puppy mess, and spent time brushing and walking many of our dogs. Our kitties got plenty of love too, as the volunteers helped play with and socialize our cats and kittens!

Cooper (pictured), a fun-loving puppy, had a great time as he got several walks and plenty of loving.

As an all-volunteer rescue, community days like this mean the world to us and the animals in our care. The cats and dogs loved every single minute of having them here, and they are welcome back anytime. 😊

🐾 BRANDIE UPDATE: The final step on her long journey! 💛

Look at her smiling beautiful face! (Cone and all!) Brandie is officially back from the vet and doing great.

As many of our volunteers know, it looked like a couple of her stitches from her eye removal surgery had broken. We took her back to Dr. Causey yesterday who explained that along with the broken stitches, the initial swelling had gone down, causing the skin edges to overlap slightly. He restitched the area to make sure her incision not only heals but that she also looks as attractive as possible when it's fully done. She stayed overnight and we just picked her up this afternoon.

Dr. Causey assured us that her eye area is already healing beautifully, so we are absolutely not starting over from scratch. We are so incredibly grateful to Dr. Causey for his meticulous care and for wanting only the best for our sweet girl.

Brandie’s story is one of true resilience. She came to us at 10 years old with a litter of 10 puppies. She nursed all of her babies, completed heartworm treatment, and now had her damaged eye removed as the last hurdle to be completely healthy.

None of this, not her rescue, her medical care, or her bright future, would be possible without YOU, our incredible donors. Your generosity gave Brandie a second chance at life when she needed it most. Because of you, this sweet mama is finally ready to find the forever, loving home she so truly deserves.🐾

We asked and the orders are arriving. Thank you so much to those that ordered supplies for our puppies and our kittens! We received much needed puppy pads, teething toys and food and always needed garbage bags, laundry detergent, paper towels , etc!

Our puppies and kittens thank you, too!

We are incredibly proud to share a special behind-the-scenes look at our partnership with the McCormick County Correctional Institute! 🐕

In this short video, you’ll see firsthand how this amazing program changes lives on both ends of the leash. Our dogs get dedicated, round-the-clock training to learn manners, social skills, and commands that prepare them for their forever homes. At the same time, the inmates find fulfillment, purpose, and joy in helping these animals transform.

As an all-volunteer nonprofit, partnerships like this mean the world to us and to the dogs waiting for a second chance.

Watch their journey and contact us at [email protected] to learn more. ❤️

Courtesy Post: This pup needs a home!
Wiggles, also known as Buddy Boy, was a stray that someone left on our farm 5 months ago. He is very sweet and playful and he deserves a home.

Wiggles has been neutered and he is up to date on shots. We do give him flea prevention and he is crate trained. We have not let him in our home because the dog we have will not allow it. He lives outside. He is very friendly to my dog thru a fence. The vet said he is 7 years old.

We are desperate to find Wiggles a good home. If you have questions or know of a rescue that can help him, please call us at 864-828-2127. He is in McCormick County.

This pup is posted as a courtesy post and is not affiliated with the Humane Society of McCormick County (HSMC). The HSMC is not liable for this pup and an adoption of a pup would be independent of the HSMC. By courtesy posting, we are offering our website as an additional outlet to help an owner or rescuer gain additional exposure for the dog they are trying to place.

Please make sure your pets rabies vaccination is up to date!

Please make sure your pets rabies vaccination is up to date!

We’ve had several confirmed cases of rabies this year in Anderson, Greenville, and Pickens counties. An information flyer from SCDPH is included with details about the most recent rabies-positive case in Greenville County.
Rabies doesn’t just pose a threat to our dogs and cats; it can also affect livestock, wildlife, and people
The best way to protect your pets, your family, and your farm animals is to make sure your dogs and cats are current on their rabies vaccinations. Some farm animals can also be vaccinated against rabies, so talk with your veterinarian about which vaccines may be appropriate for your livestock. Even pets that spend most of their time indoors can be exposed if a bat or other wild animal gets into your home.
If you own livestock, keeping your pets vaccinated, and vaccinating eligible farm animals, can help reduce the risk of exposure around your property. Be sure to avoid contact with wildlife, and report any animals that are acting unusually aggressive, unusually tame, or showing other abnormal behavior.
If your pet or livestock is overdue for a rabies vaccine or has had contact with a wild animal, please give us a call. Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms develop, but it is completely preventable through vaccination.
Let’s do our part to protect our pets, our livestock, our families, and our community. 🐾❤️
