What a joy to host the fifth monthly class in our Know How series with Sawline Apothecary at Kinship Pointe at McCook and Hillcrest "A Caring Center". Emily demonstrated how to make a prairie flower salve with olive oil, shea, beeswax and fresh lavender, comfrey, calendula and rosemary flowers. Nature’s way to heal bumps, scrapes, boo-boos and owies! Know How is supported by generous grants byNebraska Arts Council, McCook Community Foundation Fund, and Graff Charitable Foundation. Today would have been Dolores Graff’s 94th birthday and her wisdom about natural remedies inspired this project. Thank you Emily and Linda Graff for volunteering today!

Thank you Citta' Deli for hosting our Little Chefs class today. We are so thankful for your spectacular generosity, Bill and Jade Lesko in offering a tour, space, ingredients and letting each participant make their own individual pizza, as well as taste all three styles of pizza: New York, Sicilian, and the rocket pizza with bottomless beverages!

Thank you Diane Wilson Lyons for volunteering, the Citta’ Deli staff for assisting and Elliot and Evelyn for generously offering a hand too! Thank you Kimberlee Obert for your dedication to our Little Chefs in organizing this class!

We are so fortunate to have such a special restaurant in our community

The Seasoning without Salt presentation was a delicious way to spend a Saturday morning Kinship Pointe at McCook. Thank you Martha Callahan for sharing the delicious herbs from Sawline Apothecary in a myriad of easy fruit and vegetable combinations! You can see the honey from Busy Bees Garden and Greenhouse was well used for vinaigrette and seasoning. We really appreciate the grant from McCook Community Foundation Fund that supports this work.

We love these herbs from Sawline Apothecary, can you smell their sweetness? Getting ready for weekend workshops.

We are excited to share a magnificent display of remedies from Know-How McCook. Visit ArtBank, 108 West D Street, open today from 10-4 pm and ongoing through the summer.

Know-How (2024-ongoing) is a project by Jody Wood featuring a process of collecting and sharing community health knowledge from around the world. Within the project, knowledge about health and care is generated through situated encounters, material engagements, and storytelling. Launched in September 2025, Know How: McCook includes oral history and remedy-as-recipe workshops in collaboration with Hillcrest Nursing Home, Kinship Pointe, Heritage Senior Center, and various residents of McCook. The project is supported by the Ed and Jean Mathews Foundation, Nebraska Arts Council, Graff Charitable Foundation and in collaboration with the 6th Floor Project. A shared community meal based on mobility remedies will take place at ArtBank on September 18, 2026. Save the date!
