The Oak Grove School House barn quilt. The present one room school house, located in Brush Creek Township, was built in 1924 after the previous school house was damaged beyond repair by a fire. It was closed in 1959 when the students were transferred to Warfordsburg Elementary. The pattern of the school house, school bus, and flag pole seemed appropriate for the location. The #13 chosen for the bus was the bus number driven by Herman L Hill beginning in 1955 thru 1982.

This barn quilt is located on the former Overly-Raker building north of McConnellsburg along Route 522. Raking Leaves was a natural choice for this block because the Fulton Fall Folk Festival came about as a dream of Helen Overly along with business partner Freda Raker. They wanted to introduce this, its beauty, culture, and wonderful people, to visitors via tourism. Committees with hardworking people caught the vision and made it happen.

Join us tomorrow October 9th for “General Washington and the Dance” at the Fendrick Library! This FREE program begins at 6:30PM.

Discover DanceWorks a (501c3) in association with Danza Antiqua celebrate America250! Come and see accurately reconstructed Colonial dances as they were danced at high society balls and assemblies. Learn the history of George Washington the dancer. The program features dancers in reproduction period clothing, performing elegant, energetic and stylish social dances, popular before and after the founding of the new Republic. Hear period songs by our resident vocalists. The program will be interspersed with humorous and informative period readings and explain the social settings in which the dances were enjoyed, and how Colonial dances are reconstructed from period dance manuals. This program will bring Colonial dances & society to life.

Suitable for adults and children 3rd Grade and up.
