Missionary Spotlight: Alf Evans
"Where two or three are gathered…doesn’t have to be a church building. Through worship, music, laughter, and relationships, Alf serves churches, senior centers, and bars and restaurants, using the gift of music to meet people where they are. Spending years leading worship for kids ministry, youth, and adults, Alf has a unique opportunity to bring encouragement and the message of hope found in Jesus to people from many different walks of life. In churches, he serves through worship, preaching, and ministry events. At senior centers, his music provides an opportunity to bring joy, encouragement, and meaningful connection to people who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation.
On weekends, Alf often takes his music outside the traditional church setting, performing at bars, restaurants, and other venues throughout the community. These settings provide opportunities to build genuine relationships with people who might never step inside a church. Alf doesn’t see these venues simply as places to perform, but as mission fields—places where he can listen to people’s stories, encourage them, and be a positive presence while allowing God to open doors for spiritual conversations. “I like to have church on a Friday night!, Alf explains, doing gospel “sing along songs”, such as “I Saw The Light” and “Amazing Grace”. It’s beautiful how often we break in to worship on a Friday night at a bar. Through country music, gospel, and hymns, Alf uses music as a bridge between people and the Gospel. His desire is simple: to go where people are, love them well, build relationships, and allow God to use every song, conversation, and encounter to point people toward Christ."
