🐕🐾Squirtle went on a dog day out this week, and here is his pupdate:
Squirtle is a 10-month old guy with the most soulful eyes.
Squirtle has spent much of his young life in shelters. At the shelter, he can be anxious and stressed, but as soon as we walked out the door, he became a different dog. I'm not sure how much time Squirtle has spent in cars, so he was a bit nervous to load up, but he let me pick him up and help him into the backseat. He rode like a little gentleman, occasionally poking his nose past the headrest to say hi and ever so gently take treats.
Once we got to the trailhead, he was a little bit hesitant to unload, but got brave and took a leap out. We hit the trail, and Squirtle could not have been any easier on the leash. I had to reassure him that it was okay to walk in front of me, as he preferred walking side-by-side on the narrow single-track 😄
The world is clearly still new to Squirtle, and he cautiously enjoyed sniffs and check-ins along the way. One big disclaimer for anyone interested in Squirtle: he likes hiking, but he will require regular cuddle breaks, and he made it clear that those are non-negotiable! Luckily, I was happy to oblige--this little dude is impossible to resist.
Squirtle knows sit, and he was so polite when we encountered a number of mountain bikers, moving off the trail and sitting until they had passed. Back at the trail head, we ran into some friends, and Squirtle wasted no time in snuggling up to them and winning them over!
This guy is so ready for his family to show him unconditional love and safety. Let's make MCPAWS Squirtle's last shelter stop and get him on home!
