An update on the ZC of WHC face mask project.. So far more than 100 have been delivered to assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospice care, a cancer treatment center and we are working on masks for our State Veterans Home and local women's shelter.. Kits of prepared supplies and instructions for 20 masks each are being given to our members who will sew them and return to one member in charge of delivery. We want to do our part to help those helping others.

SHINING STARS BANQUET
TUESDAY, APRIL 24TH
6:30 PM MCALLEN COUNTRY CLUB
to honor Chris Ardis, Sally Fraustro Guerra and Annie Holand Miller

The Zonta Club of West Hidalgo County is pleased to invite the community to join in honoring Chris Ardis, Sally Fraustro Guerra and Annie Holand Miller at the 2018 Shining Stars of Hidalgo County Dinner. The annual event will be held Tuesday, April 24th, 6:30 p.m. at McAllen Country Club.

Chris Ardis is being honored for her service to Education and Youth. Her junior year of high school, during a Catholic mass, Chris saw a sign language interpreter using her hands to translate the spoken word into sign language for a little girl who was Deaf. Mesmerized by the beauty of sign language, Chris decided that evening she would become a teacher of the Deaf. In 1983 Chris began her teaching career with McAllen ISD. After 29 years of teaching, Chris decided to retire. While she didn’t miss the paperwork and the increasing number of meetings required of teachers, Chris dearly missed working with students, so she jumped at the chance to work with students at IDEA Toros College Prep. For the past two years, Chris has met with Toros students weekly, advising them as they write their personal statements for college admission.

Sally Fraustro Guerra is being honored for her professional contributions to the community. Sally, a lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley, plays a unique role in Valley life. As an experienced and knowledgeable Real Estate Broker for 20 year, Sally uses her expertise to sell the Valley. Sally believes that the key to the Valley’s success is networking and she’s all about bringing people together. She’s constantly fostering regional development by connecting people with similar interests. In addition to selling real estate, Sally is now the Owner & Publisher of Socialife RGV Magazine. Sally currently serves on the Board of Directors for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, Crimestoppers, the McAllen ISD Education Foundation and the Leadership McAllen Board Alumni Committee.

Annie Holand Miller is being honored for her community service. She is fiercely committed to inspiring others to give back to their communities—whether by giving time, talent or money. Among the organizations benefiting from Annie’s passion to make the world a better place are McAllen Education Foundation, Friends of Quinta Mazatlan, Temple Emanuel, the Valley Zoological Society, The University of Texas Law School Foundation, The University of Texas System Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee, The University of Texas at Austin’s Development Board, Texas Coalition for Excellence in Higher Education and The University of Texas Foundation, She is the ultimate volunteer, helping improve the quality of life for citizens of Texas.

Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
