September 28 - World Rabies Day

"It is celebrated annually to raise awareness about rabies prevention and to highlight progress in defeating this horrifying disease.

September 28 also marks the anniversary of Louis Pasteur's death, the French chemist and microbiologist, who developed the first rabies vaccine.

World Rabies Day 2017 marks the announcement of the biggest global anti-rabies initiative.

Today, the World Health Organization, the World Organisation for Animal Health, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Global Alliance for Rabies Control will reveal an ambitious plan to end human deaths from dog-transmitted rabies by 2030."

"Fish Amnesty Day is a day to recognize fish as living animals with rights and in need of protection just the same as other vertebrates. In addition to protection of fish, it's purpose is also to convert near vegetarians who still eat seafood to take the final step and become fully vegetarian"

September 28 - Caroline Earle White’s Birthday

"Caroline Earle White (1833–1916) was an American philanthropist and anti-vivisection activist. She co-founded the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) in 1867, founded its women's branch (WPSPCA) in 1869, and founded the American Anti-Vivisection Society (AAVS) in 1883.White was also an active clubwoman, and was involved in literary societies and women's suffrage, and worked with organizations that helped the poor obtain medical services"
