🌟CSEA’s statewide college scholarships are available! 🎓

Graduating high school seniors who are dependents of CSEA active members are eligible to apply for and potentially receive one of our union’s statewide college scholarships. CSEA awards 18, $1,000 Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarships (three in each region) every year. Pearl Insurance and MetLife each sponsor a one-time $2,500 award.

New this year – CSEA has opened the J.J. Kelly Memorial Scholarship to active members and their eligible dependent children going to a college, trade school or any post-secondary education program. This scholarship will help students who show leadership qualities in their community, school or union with the rising cost of tuition.

Late Thursday night, President Trump signed an executive order stripping collective bargaining rights from nearly one million federal workers, including thousands of AFSCME members. This attack is blatant retribution – the White House fact sheet explaining the executive order said so itself. The administration wants to silence workers because we’re holding them accountable and winning. We need you to make your voice heard to protect union contracts:

Each year, United Way of Southern Chautauqua County partners with organized labor to select one of its own to receive the Joseph H. Mason Award.

This award honors the memory of Mr. Mason and his service in our community.

Nominations are open to any union member, active or retired, who has provided outstanding volunteer service in Southern Chautauqua County.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀:
•𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: We are opening up the award to be county-wide for the first time, and not just exclusively for Southern Chautauqua County. As part of our increased collaboration and future partnership with United Way of Northern Chautauqua County—this was important to our Board and our Labor Committee.
•𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿: We will be holding the award ceremony in October (not August as in previous years) in Mayville. Our committee felt strongly that this would allow greater participation among local labor unions because there would be less conflict with summer plans and activities.

Our advocacy is working! The State Senate and Assembly have publicly supported including Tier 6 reforms in this year’s final budget.
We need to keep the pressure on to get these changes past the finish line.
Send an email to your State Senator and Assemblymember and let them know that we need Tier 6 reforms included in the final budget!

Please Disregard Univera "Out-of-Network Coverage" Letter

Univera recently mailed letters to all employees and retirees enrolled in the Chautauqua County Health Plan. These letters stated that Univera would “no longer reimburse you the same amount for visiting certain non-participating (non-par) medical providers who practice outside of our network”. This letter was sent in error by Univera.

There have been no changes to the Chautauqua County Health Plan. The letter was intended specifically for Univera members covered by other employer groups, and should not have been sent to Chautauqua County employees and retirees.
