MAYVILLE- Floyd “Wayne” Dunbar, 89, 0f Mayville, passed away peacefully ay his home on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinson’s, with his wife Clara by his side.

He was born October 22, 1932, in Dawson Springs, KY, the son of the late Volney and Laila Jones Dunbar.

Wayne was a 1951 graduate of Dawson Springs High School. He then proudly served his country from 1951 to 1955 in the United States Air Force 4th Fighter Wing in Korea. After his honorable discharge he worked as a Millwright at Harrison Radiator in Lockport, NY and retired after twenty-four years in 1994.

He was a life member of Lake Chautauqua Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8647 where he was a very active member serving as Post Commander and Quartermaster. He was also a past VFW Chautauqua County Council Commander. He was a member of Post 493 Mayville American Legion where he was a board member and retired from the North Chautauqua County Sewer District Board.

Wayne and Clara enjoyed many trips out west to our National Parks and trips with his friends Willie and Tillie” on his Harley he bought as a retirement present.

He is survived by his loving wife; Clara Herzog Dunbar, whom he married May 26, 2000, in Germantown, TN, four children; Clifford Dunbar of Miami, FL, Dominick (Jacqui) Dunbar of Stafford, VA, Brenda (Vince) Rutten and Lisa Dunbar, both of Tallahassee, FL. Affectionately known as “Granpappy” to seven grandchildren; Carl (Lindsay) Horton, Anthony and Andrea Dunbar, and Victoria (Wesley) Neill, Nico, Veronica (Ross) Wood, and Dante Dunbar, four great grandchildren; Austin (Angelina) Starky, Luke, Logan and Lane Horton, and many nieces and nephews. A very special niece Connie Whitemore who was his caregiver for several years. Her loving care sure brightened his days.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; Willa Dean Burris and one brother; James Dunbar, both of Dawson Springs, KY.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at the Veterans Memorial Gazebo in the Mayville Cemetery. The service date and time will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the Mina Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
