I owe you all an update — and an apology — for being a little MIA.
Over the past year, my business, Bonilla Vocal Academy, has entered its musical theater era and has grown quite quickly and kind of unexpectedly. My focus was shifted and I needed to devote more time and energy into that to keep the momentum going.
Because of that, I’ve made the difficult decision not to host the Just Keep Singing Inc. competition this year. This project deserves more attention, intention, and care than I’ve been able to give it. I have so many ideas on what this nonprofit can grow into but I’ve realized it truly needs a bigger team behind it to help make it happen and I need to actually allow that team to help!
I’m actively looking to build a committed board for Just Keep Singing and am seeking volunteers who have the passion, time, and capacity to be involved. If you have experience serving on a nonprofit board, that would be incredibly helpful. If you don’t have formal experience but are organized, reliable, and eager to learn, I would still love to hear from you.
I’m genuinely sorry that I haven’t been able to make this happen as I know many of you look forward to this event. Please know that this decision comes from a place of wanting to do things the right way, not halfway — because this mission deserves that level of care.

Mark Vogel is a versatile musician, excelling as both a tenor and pianist. He recently made his
Wigmore Hall debut alongside his husband, baritone Edward Vogel. Mark performs with many of the nation’s premier professional choirs, including Apollo’s Fire, True Concord Voices &
Orchestra, Seraphic Fire, and The Crossing, and was awarded first prize in the 2021 Audrey
Rooney Vocal Competition. As a choral scholar at Hereford Cathedral, he performed in the 2018
Three Choirs Festival, and at prestigious venues such as Buckingham Palace, and the Sistine
Chapel in Vatican City.

Mark holds degrees in vocal performance from Westminster Choir College and the University of
Notre Dame. As a pianist, he brings both nuance and versatility to his collaborations, whether
accompanying choral ensembles or performing in recital. His past piano engagements include a
year in residence with the American Boychoir School and work with the NAfME National Honor
Choir, the Tennessee All-State Honor Choir, the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute, and the
Southern Division ACDA Honor Choir. He has also served as a collaborative keyboardist at
Westminster Choir College, Princeton University, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga,
and Case Western Reserve University.

When he’s not making music, Mark is active in the fiber arts community. He leads workshops,
teaches knitting techniques, and cultivates a growing community on YouTube, where he shares
his passion for crafting.

Dr. Gretchen Bruesehoff is a music director, conductor, vocalist, and educator with extensive experience in music direction and performance. A native of Ocean City, NJ, she has performed on opera and musical theatre stages across the United States and internationally. As a performer, she has taken on roles such as Elle Woods (Legally Blonde), Alice Beineke (The Addams Family), Glinda (The Wizard of Oz), Lily (The Secret Garden), Marian Paroo (The Music Man), and Sister Amnesia (Nunsense). Her operatic roles include Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Annina (La Traviata), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Frasquita (Carmen), Valencienne (Die Lustige Witwe), Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore), Serpetta (La Finta Giardiniera), and Announcer (Gallantry). She is also featured on the world premiere recording of Oferen Gernewek Vyghan: A Little Cornish Massby Adrian Fish.

Dr. Bruesehoff regularly performs with the North Carolina Opera and has appeared in notable venues such as the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal, The Salzburg Mozarteum, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Atlanta Georgia Dome. She trained as an opera fellow at The Atlantic Music Festival, The American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and Opernwerkstatt Lofer in Salzburg, Austria. She holds undergraduate degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Elon University, a master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Iowa, and a doctorate from Vanderbilt University in Leadership and Learning in Organizations.

As a professor of music and performing arts at Elon University, Dr. Bruesehoff has trained students who have gone on to win national and international competitions, earn master’s degrees from prestigious universities, and perform on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in National Tours, and productions across the country.

In addition to her work as a performer and educator, she has extensively studied the effects of yoga on the voice and voice pedagogy, creating her own Authentic Voice program, which focuses on releasing vocal tensions through the use of yoga.

We did it! Our finalists have been selected and now it’s time to gear up for our winners gala where we will find out who will receive our monetary scholarship prizes. The concert will be June 22nd at the Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point NJ. Ticket link in bio. Hope to see you there!

Round 1 judging is complete! We’ve narrowed it down from 97 to 58 singers who will compete in our second round of the competition. Check your emails tomorrow night (Monday) for results. I have to say, the middle school division is on fire this year! Some of the highest scores we’ve seen. Can’t wait to see what you all bring to the next round! 🎵
