Oppose High Density Zoning at Mayo Ridge!
The owner of Mayo Ridge Marina near Mayo Elementary School requested rezoning a portion of the marina’s lots to R22 – the highest density residential zoning available across the County. High density zoning means more traffic on MD 214 and Mayo Ridge Rd in a school zone and increased impervious surfaces in the Critical Area that will send polluting stormwater into the Ramsey Bay and the South River. This high density residential zoning is out of character to the surrounding area and the entire Mayo Peninsula. Tell the Planning Advisory Board that you oppose high density development so close to a school in a low-density area at the end of the Mayo Peninsula! NEW: Comprehensive Rezoning - Draft Region 9 Plan and Zoning Map Available for Review

Region 9 includes Mayo and other areas in the southern portion of the County stretching from Edgewater to North Beach from the Bay to MD 2 to the west. Check out the draft Region Plan and zoning map and submit your written or verbal testimony to the Planning Advisory Board (PAB). Comments will be accepted from now through October 9, 2024. Please take time to review the plan and maps and submit your comments.

Region 9 Comprehensive Rezoning Planning Advisory Board briefing on September 25, 2024, at 6:00 pm in the Southern High School Auditorium, 4400 Solomons Island Road, Harwood, 20776 and by via Zoom. Regional Planning for Mayo – Region 9 - Once A Decade Land Use Changes (ZONING) in Mayo
Requests by property owners for a change in Zoning designations have been reviewed in depth. There will be four opportunities to review the work of the Stakeholder group and make your own suggestions, especially for proposals affecting the Mayo Peninsula.

Join ACCO Office of Planning and Zoning staff at Drop-In Sessions for Region 9 in June and July for a discussion on comprehensive zoning and to share your thoughts and make your own suggestions on the draft zoning map for the Mayo Peninsula and the rest of Region 9! The Mayo Civic Association (MCA) has represented residents, community organizations and hoa’s on the Mayo Peninsula in Mayo, Maryland for more than 100 years. The organization was founded by local waterman who made their living on the Rhode, West and South Rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. The MCA is headquartered in the MCA Community Hall at 1175 Mayo Road (MD 214). This MCA Hall has served the greater Mayo Community as a social center, a meeting place, school, a church, and a community center for more than 100 years.
