The Beacon Santa Fund

Since 1965 the Beacon Santa Fund has been helping families in Acton, Bedford, Billerica, Boxborough, Chelmsford, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Maynard, Stow, and Westford put a little something under the tree at Christmas.
Long run by GateHouse Media, the fund is now being managed by three women from Maynard. Since all board members and helpers volunteer their time, the money you donate goes directly to help families in need.
For this year, 2025, the Beacon Santa received over 360 applications (serving over 850 children) from people in all 12 towns we serve who need a helping hand to make Christmas memorable for their children. But the fund would not exist without help from people like you. A large portion of the money raised for this fund is given by students involved in Maynard High School’s WAVM Radio and TV Station by conducting an annual Telethon (last year they raised over $35,000!). The remainder is done by personal donations. Even a small donation can help the Beacon Santa provide a gift card for a family in need.

Every year, hundreds of applicants in the 12 communities of Acton, Boxborough, Billerica, Bedford, Concord, Chelmsford, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Maynard, Stow, and Westford, turn to the Beacon Santa.
This year, over 275 families asked for help for 625 children from the Beacon Santa to provide a few things for their children for Christmas. We know it’s a big ask – it seems everyone’s been struggling the last few years, what with the high prices of everything from eggs to gasoline. But if everyone reading this donated as little as $5, the Beacon Santa would be able to help those 625 children find a little joy this Christmas.

Founded in 1965, the Beacon Santa raises funds to provide holiday gift cards to families living in the 12 communities it served, and now we continue the tradition!

Thank you from the Beacon Santa Fund
We would like to thank everyone who donated to the Beacon Santa Fund so far. We are so grateful for your generosity. This past holiday season we were able to help over 520 children have a brighter holiday. We’ve received many emails/notes from parents/caregivers thanking us for helping them this year, giving them the resources they needed to make this happen.
The WAVM Beacon Santa Telethon did an incredible job, as always, and raised over $35,000!! For those of you that don’t know what the Telethon is, it is a student-run event that broadcasts live the second weekend of December from Maynard High School on radio, television, and live stream on their website, wavm.org. Last month marked the 45th year of the Telethon raising well over $1.2 million since 1978. That’s a whole lot of families being helped in 12 local towns including: Acton, Bedford, Billerica, Boxborough, Chelmsford, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Maynard, Stow, and Westford.

The Maynard students did such a great job raising money during the WAVM Beacon Santa Telethon to help many children not only in Maynard, but also in 11 surrounding towns, including: Acton, Bedford, Billerica, Boxborough, Chelmsford, Concord, Lincoln, Littleton, Lexington, Stow, and Westford. Congratulations to everyone who made the WAVM Beacon Santa Telethon a success. They met their goal! $35,466. SO AMAZING!! These kids work so hard to help others have a brighter holiday season! ❤️

Decorations are starting to go up, Christmas music is playing on the radio, and Santa has made his way from the North Pole to pose for pictures with smiling boys and girls. Children are counting off the days, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Christmas morning and the surprises that wait under the tree.

For many people, the holiday season is magical.

For others, this time of year can cause a feeling of dread. These people know all too well that there is barely enough money to buy food – putting a present under the tree for their little ones is nearly impossible.

That is where you come in. For 65 years, the Beacon Santa has been working to provide struggling families with a little something extra to help them make Christmas magical for their young ones. But the Beacon Santa would not exist without generous people like you donating to the cause.

A single mother from Lexington writes that she received help from Beacon Santa last year. She was living in the Arlington Social Support Shelter at the time.

“I told [my three kids] it was a blessing from God, and I used it to purchase many clothes for them,” she writes.

She is hoping for a little from Beacon Santa again this year.

One mother writes that she recently moved to Acton after being homeless for two years due to a fire but she is still struggling to make ends meet. She is asking Beacon Santa for help for her children.

“A gift from Santa will allow me to purchase winter clothes for my children and bed and bathroom linens,” she writes.

You may have heard that the Beacon Santa Fund is now being run by three women from Maynard. They are committed to ensuring that the fund continues to exist to make a difference for struggling families during the holiday season. The board is made up entirely of volunteers, so you can be sure that the money you donate goes directly to helping families in need. Even small donations can help make someone’s holiday a little brighter.

The Beacon Santa Fund is alive and well! Three women from Maynard are now managing this fund to keep it going. Brenda Sullivan, Kim Lalli, and Carol Collins helped with the transition last year and are now the Board of Directors of this fund. Each of their children were co-hosts of the Telethon many years ago (and Brenda was also a co-host at the very beginning!). They decided they didn't want this fund to stop. The Beacon Santa Fund is still covering all 12 towns – Acton, Bedford, Billerica, Boxborough, Chelmsford, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Maynard, Stow, and Westford. Rest assured, the Board of Directors and all other volunteers receive no stipends or salaries.

The Beacon Santa Telethon, done by Maynard High School students and many other elves, takes place the second weekend of December each year. They raise the bulk of the money for those in need of some extra help during the holidays.

We’ve already received many applications from each of the towns covered, as the applications were due October 30th. The Beacon Santa Fund will be helping over 500 children this year! The Telethon raises a lot of money for this, but we count on the generous donations from others to keep this fund going in all 12 towns.
