Community of Greater Cleveland
(BCGC)
Are you looking for an opportunity to contribute to your community while enhancing your confidence and leadership skills? If so, our registered 501(c)(3) charity organization, the Bhutanese Community of Greater Cleveland (BCGC), is currently seeking ten new members to join our Board of Directors. These positions are entirely voluntary and unpaid.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our outgoing board members for their dedicated and honorable service to BCGC. They have each completed multiple two-year terms and have tirelessly contributed to the organization and the community since its establishment. As some members transition away due to time constraints, others will continue to serve as advisory and general board members.

We greatly appreciate their commitment, selflessness, and the valuable contributions they have made to our community. We also thank them for making space for new members to step forward and continue this important work.

Board Member Applications Are Now Open:
All community members are encouraged to apply, regardless of gender, age, educational background, or professional experience. However, BCGC strongly welcomes and encourages applications from youth, women, and recent graduates to ensure balanced representation and diverse perspectives within the Board. All applications will be reviewed and evaluated objectively through a consistent application and interview process. Interested applicants should submit a brief statement of interest along with a current resume.

6. Nepali language and Literature Coordinator
7. Education and Empowerment Coordinator

We, the Bhutanese community of Greater Cleveland, are deeply saddened by the passing of our community member, Nar Bahadur Ghaley on 01/23/2026 at 5:30 am in Cleveland Ohio. May the departed soul rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family. As we gather in remembrance of a life well-lived, we cherish the moments shared and the legacy he leaves behind.
he was born on 05/25/1957 from his parents Father Lt. Birkha Bahadur Ghalley (Chaprasi) and Mother Man Maya Ghalley (Herrishburgh PA) .His journey through life began in Bhutan, residing Village Lankhar, Block Lalai , Sarbang District, before his entry to Nepal in 1992 at the Goldhap Camp,sec D/4, Hut No 82 becoming a refugee to save lives from the threat and torture of Bhutan governments mission to ethic cleansing to Nepali speaking citizens on southern Bhutan.In 2010, he moved to the United States, making her home at 4749 Anderson Road Cleveland Ohio 44124 .

To the Family of Lachhi Rai (Dumee),
We, the Bhutanese community of Greater Cleveland, express our profound sorrow at the passing of our esteemed community member, Lachhi Rai (Dumee), who departed this life at the age of 42 on December 3, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio. May her soul find eternal peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with her grieving family during this difficult time.
As we come together to remember and honor a life richly lived, we hold dear the moments we shared and the enduring legacy she leaves behind. Lachhi was born as the eldest daughter to her parents, Nar Dhoj Dumee and Amrita Rai, on January 1, 1983. Her life's journey began in Bhutan, in the village of Yaba, Samchi District, before she and her family sought refuge in Nepal in 1992, residing at the Sanischare Camp, Section K/3, Hut No. 13. This move was born from the necessity of escaping the threats and atrocities perpetrated against Nepali-speaking citizens by the Bhutanese government.
In 2013, Lachhi settled in the United States, making her home at 5208 Thoreau Drive, Parma, Ohio 44129.
She is survived by her beloved parents Nar Dhoj Dumee and Amrita Rai and Siblings: Ambika Rai dumee ,Biru Rai dumee ,Phul maya Rai dumee, Benu Rai dumee, Budhha Rai dumee , Rajendra Rai dumee will forever hold her memory close.

Dear All,
We are pleased to invite you to a special screening of the award-winning film "Yo Mann Ta Mero Nepali Ho" (This Heart is Mine Nepali) at the Capitol Theater on November 19. This film recently received the Excellent Feature Film award at the 12th San Francisco International New Concept Film Festival and the Best Cinematography award at the Milton Keynes International Film Festival in the UK.

Let us come together to support local filmmaker Nar Pradhan (Mitra Pradhan) and his team as they present this meaningful story that highlights the experiences of Nepali speakers living abroad. The film delves into themes of history, cultural preservation, and the significance of our mother language, beautifully capturing a profound love for our roots and the strength to remain true to our language and identity.

We, the Bhutanese community of Greater Cleveland, are profoundly saddened by the passing of our cherished community member, Aiti Maya Singdhan, on November 8, 2025, at 4:37 PM in University Hospital, Parma, Ohio. May her soul rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family during this difficult time. As we come together to remember a life well-lived, we will treasure the moments shared and the legacy she leaves behind.
Aiti Maya Singdhan was born on January 1, 1971. Her life began in Bhutan, specifically in Block Tashidin, Village Batasey, Dagana District. In 1992, she relocated to Nepal, residing at Sanischare Camp, Section I/1, Hut No. 30. In December 2013, she moved to the United States, establishing her home at 4587 Roadoan Road, Brooklyn, Ohio 44144.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Santa Bir Singdhan, and her sons, Durga Singdhan (Cleveland, Ohio) and Bishal Singdhan (Cleveland, Ohio). Her daughter, Ful Maya Singdhan (Cleveland, Ohio), will forever hold her memory .

We, the Bhutanese community of Greater Cleveland, are deeply saddened by the passing of our community member, Deo Maya Baraily on October 23, 2025. May the departed soul rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family. As we gather in remembrance of a life well-lived, we cherish the moments shared and the legacy she leaves behind.
Deo Maya was born on January 1, 1942, to Lt. Bhagi Maya Ghataney and Lt. Ghanshyam Ghataney. Her journey through life began in Bhutan, residing in Block Emirey, Village Papgaun, Dagana District, before her entry to Nepal in 1992 at the Sanischare Camp, Hut No. 38. In December 2011, she moved to the United States, making her home at 7662 Hidden Valley Lane, Cleveland, OH 44129.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Moni Raj Baraily, and her sons Budi Man Baraily, Tul Baraily, and Santa Baraily, all residing in Cleveland, Ohio. Her daughters, Januka Lamgadey in Kalchini, India, Lt. Hari Maya Shankar, Mina Biswa in Cleveland Ohio , Bishnu Shankar in Cincinnati Ohio , and Durga Shankar in Columbus, Ohio, along with Sita Sinchuary in Scranton, PA, will forever hold her memory close.
Deo Maya was a loving grandmother to 25 grandchildren, all of whom continue to carry her spirit forward in their lives.

We are aware of the current situation in Nepal and the devastating tragedy that has claimed the lives of 21 young people, including students and children, during the anti-corruption protests. At this sad time, the Bhutanese community of Greater Cleveland (BCGC) and the Nepali American Organization of Ohio (NAOO) jointly invite you to join a candlelight vigil for the lost souls and to pray for peace in Nepal.
